They're a chapter of unknown origin, not Aquamarine-decendants

No?  I was reading a post "somewhere" (I never keep track) about their upcoming appearance in a 40k sourcebook (Imperial Armour, I think).  That person said they were.  Just hear-say (or heresy?) I guess.

Either way, if there is upcoming fluff, I prob won't have access to it and it's not really a big deal.  I just liked the name, their updated colors were charcoal and mustard, extreme xenophobes and they invented the Helios.  This should have tipped me off that there would be fluff forthcoming.  Can't make a new vehicle without fleshing out the chapter that uses it.

Anyway, I can always "borrow" the Helios for my chapter.  There are still a few good name choices left too.

The fluff was found in the already-released Imperial Armour IV: The Anphelion Project, which features the Red Scorpions as the Marine Chapter (Each book's gotta have at least one!).

The book includes an extensive Index-Astartes section, including history, tactical notes, 40k-traits, etc.

They're still incredibly hostile to nigh-on everone, and they did indeed invent the Helios... And yeah, their primogenitor Chapter is unknown.

No problems matey.

Imperial Armour IV is a great read if you're interested in the Red Scorpions (It's the most in-depth Red-Scorpions piece any arm of GW have put out to-date), though its main focus is on the Tyranid beasties FW produce.

Yeah, thank heavan for 40k.  Without it, there'd be no official continuing resource for Epic.  I don't play 40k, but invested in 85% of the codex books (either current or prev eds) just to use for Epic material.

I've gotten a number of ideas for Epic conversions from Krooza's 40k Ork conversions(my mek just has to have one of those tow trucks!).

I try to take advantage whenever I can, but those Imperial Armour books can be a bit pricey.

I can back E&C on this one, IA4 is a good read. And the work they put into the pics of the Red Scorpions, I almost change my army focus. IA are always a good resource. The RS look very cool, I have been fielding LR Helios for about 5 months now and they do a great job on the battle field. I increased the cost to 475, it appears to be reasonable. The stats I use should still be in the Adeptus Astartes section on the forum.

Cheers

I'd be interested in seeing those Helios stats, since, well, my army is Red Scorpions...

EDIT:

Found your stats:

Land Raider Helios
Type     Speed     Armour     Close Combat     Firefight
AV           25cm       4+              6+                  5+

Weapon          Range    Firepower        Notes
2 x Twin LC      45cm        AT4               -
Whirlwind         45cm        1BP             Indirect Fire

Assuming that the Land Raiders as a Formation cost 400pts, how about 25pts per Helios to Upgrade them, ala Land Speeders, fixed formation size, but with an upgrade cost.

I've been playing LR lately at 375 in line with proposed changes. So I have taken the 25 points per model on board. I am unsure about the current FF value, with proposed changes for LR to FF 4+, I see this stat changing as well.

Cheers

Ah that makes sense.

Has the Helios been proposed to the Marine Champion as an actual addition to the list?

As a model that was developed post-Armageddon's release, I doubt it was ever considered for Epic:Armageddon originally.

There is no Marine Champion, he has been MIA for ages. I pumped out an email the other day to Andy Hall, offering my services as the AC. I only have two armies, being Marine and CSM and my CSM is on the shelf. So I find it easy to dedicate my time to Marines and playtesting. Hence my series of posts in the Rules section. Enjoy the Helios, I think it will remain fan based, until I get the nod at least. Post some results of your use of them. Add your comments to the Helios post in Adeptus Astartes Rules.

Cheers
