I can hardly find the words to express my thoughts. Well, that's one way to prove that nobody's buying epic, raise the f****** prices. I can't believe GW doubled some of the prices.

It looks to my like we're on the precipice of the next Epic Dark Age.

Hi!

You mean ANOTHER dark age....

..we had one not too long ago...

..another is obviously forthcoming...

..prepare my brothers to carry the lowly candle light into that darkness....

and "Nids" from other manufacturer's ranges.

And which manufacturers would these be, then? ?There seems to be a shortage of good 6mm bugs.

Hi!

Give DRM time, many surprises will come.

Actually this news from GW may be VERY good for DRM who can fill that void with high quality cost effective minis!!  :D

Yep and I am just insane for saying Epic is heading down the great big porcelain swirl. ?:/

- Forgeworld takes epic out of the catalog
- SG stops posting updates to the vault even when Champions have said they have emails showing the new version were accepted.
- Prices going out of bounds for most people

Yah, I am just a doom sayer.

The next Epic Dark Ages is comming and we need to accept it.

Hi!

If you are a "doomsayer", what does that make me?

The freaking horseman of the apocolypse? ?:;):

Meh, I said it all along that it would come to this. The insane prices are the last thing just before epic goes out of print....

...again.....

Primarch

Hum, I think it makes us friends. ?:D

You know there were four horsemen. So if you are one and I am one, that leaves two left to ID. ?

So can I be the fourth horseman?

{Rev 6:7 NIV} When the Lamb opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature say, "Come!" {Rev 6:8 NIV} I looked, and there before me was a pale horse! Its rider was named Death, and Hades was following close behind him. They were given power over a fourth of the earth to kill by sword, famine and plague, and by the wild beasts of the earth.

{21} Yea, and the Epicommers did rise up and take the candle. And they did light it in preparation for the dark that was to fall. And Lo, some took upon themselves the records and the rules. Others did create proxies to satisfy the needs of their fellow games. Yea, they did in the way prepare for the end of the era.

It doesn't surprise me in the least that they're upping the prices on their models. I don't think this is about them 'killing of Epic' in any sense. I suspect it's simply that they're not selling the items and need to make back the price of the items. If it costs you say $2 in materials per model and $500 for each mold. You produce 5 molds and 1000 models. You've now spent $4,500 on those models. If you can't make back those $4,500 then you're taking a lose. And GW does this kind of thing on a MUCH larger scale then that. Think 50 molds and 100,000 models in a run. They likely blow several hundred thousand dollars on a single print-run of the miniatures lines. If they can't make back the price it costs them to make those miniatures, then they're SOL. There are only 2 ways to increase income off the miniatures they DO sell. Either drop the price enough that more people buy from them (Which doesn't alleviate the problem that people buy the same miniatures off eBay for even less, since folks on eBay are rarely in it for prophit) or up the costs of their models enough that the ones they DO sell will make up the difference. GW seems to be going for the later rather then the former. I don't think this is an attempt to kill Epic, I'd guess it's more a way for them to try to make back the costs it takes for them to mint the epic miniatures to begin with. Lots of you go on about how insane their prices are, and not wanting to spend money on stuff direct from them (I rarely do either, so I'm not a whole lot better). But really, this hurts GW as a company. And gives them very little reason to actually continue making Epic. If they make no money on a product line, but it costs them money to make the product line, why would they continue to make it? What inscentive is there as a company to keep spending money on something which doesn't have any return on investment? If you REALLY want to save Epic, show GW that there is a market for it. Buy their products.

Probably not what most of you want to hear. ANd you may be right, it may already be too late and they may kill Epic anyway. This may be their way of trying to cover their own losses. But I'd like to hope that there's some chance they could be convinced that they can actually make money on the proposition of making Epic miniatures.

Yeah, I was playing around with these on an RPGNet thread.  Pretty amusing.

At prices like that? If the minis were made of gold I might.

And I wonder how it is possible for ALL the other 6mm manufacturers to make comparable stuff for a lot less. Take GHQ, AFAIK the manufacturer of the most epensive micro armor. Their stuff is second to none in quality and detail.

Let's see:
GW Ragnarok: $22 for a blister of 3.
GHQ KV-2: $8.95 for a blister of 5.

GW Feral Ork Junkatrukk: $22 for 6.
GHQ GAZ Trucks: $8.95 for 5.

GW Siege Arty battery (3 guns & tractors): $20
GHQ 105mm howizer (2 guns & halftracks): $8.95

See the difference? And GHQ is the most expensive.  :/

You're right on all points, Illushia.  I really appreciate the frustration of everyone on here, and share it.  As a business plan to increase profits, it seems mad: 'we're not making money from a product, so do we promote sales or just raise the prices?'  Net effect: less sales, continually falling profits.

I don't think GW is deliberately trying to kill Epic - but they're doing a good job.

I don't think it helps that Epic stuf people DO want to buy, GW aren't making - how much money would they be making on Epic if they concentrated on getting Tyranids, Chaos & Necrons out there?  Judging by the prices 'Nid infantry goes for on eBay, there supply isn't meeting the demand.

Meh.  What can you do though?  Carry on trading, buying proxies, and keeping the hobby alive through forums like this.  Unless GW sort themselves out...

Honestly, much as I despise Microsoft, I'd almost wish that GW would take a play from there deck here... Use the income off of 40K and WHF to supplement the prices on Epic miniatures to put more out... They'd almost certainly make more money if they could supply more units. I've blown well over $250 in the last month on miniatures. Most of which are miniatures that GW no longer supports (like Warlords with different weapon sets and Reavers likewise), because I can't get them from GW. If they made them I'd probably buy them most of the time, since I could likely get them for near the same price and not have to worry about condition of the model...
