Yes, Mojarn the suspension and bigger 76mm main gun were the most notable upgrades and are clearly seen on this version. ?One of the first AFVs I built in the '70s was a Tamiya 1/32 Easy 8 ! :D

Hi!

Wow, thats a blast from the past.

I was quite found of building those as a kid.  :)

Hmmm, this is what I quickly dredged up on the easy 8. ?Some of it conflicting (as it always will, depending on the 'eye of the beholder' and who that 'beholder' was....):

M4A3E8 Sherman tank

The most widely used Allied tank in the Second World War, the Sherman tank, again saw service with American armoured units in Korea. The M4A3E8 version of the Sherman had a crew of five. It was powered by a Ford eight-cylinder petrol engine and could attain a top speed (on road) of 48 kilometres per hour. Armed with a 76 mm gun, the Sherman was outclassed by North Korea's T-34/85 tanks. After several large tank battles in July and August 1950, the American armoured units' most common task was the support of infantry operations.

from:
http://www.awm.gov.au/korea/weapons/sherman/sherman.htm

Elsewhwere though:

At the outbreak of the Korean War several Sherman tanks stationed in Japan were refurbished with larger guns and a new turret and sent as a stop gap measure to armor units fighting in Korea. The flamboyant Eighty-ninth Tank Battalion, known as "Rice's Red Devils," received their Shermans in 1951 and, as a way to frighten the enemy, quickly painted them with fierce-looking animal faces. With their fast-moving Shermans the Devils were easily able to destroy Russian tanks used by the North Koreans. As the war progressed the upgraded M4s were replaced by the better-armed and armored M26.

(Hmm this conflicts somewhat with above doesnt it? ?Though it mentions the dragon's teeth L4 mentioned)

Well, IRRC the muzzle brake was added to the 76mm in late WWII. There were earlier versions of the 76mm without the muzzle brake. The long barreled 76mm was a clear improvement over the original shorter 75mm, for AT work. ?However, the T34/85 is considered superior to the M4, the North Koreans had around 150 of them. ?Many suffered the same fate as the German Panzers on the Western Front and became casualites of US(UN) air power. :D ?In a toe-to-toe battle the T34/85 would have the advantage. The crew quality would also be a factor. ?The US Military was not the same killing/war machine it was by the end of WWII. ?The learning curve in combat is steep ... ?By the end of the first year of the war (1950), most of the T34s were knocked out. Other interesting notes on AFVs in the Korean war : ?The UK used Cromwells and Churchills left over from WWII, in small numbers. And, IIRC the Centurian made it's combat debut. ?The North Koreans also had a number of SU-76s, which many were also knocked out ... :D

Yes, they are interesting paint jobs.

And I agree, it is quite often that I can find two sources that disagree on dates, facts, or other such information. Each source stating they are reporting "the facts".

That is why I like SciFi made up by me best. The facts are what ever I say they are.
