Hi!
I remember when I first picked up AT and read the stories. THe sheer scope and magnitud of the described conflicts were staggering!
I like my games to represent a big comflict where something important hangs in the balance with victory or defeat.
The impressive sight of huge armies facing each other is hard to beat.

Why do I collect Epic? In no particular order...
1. I was tempted by some excellent WD battle reports
2. The 40K universe lends itself to Epic scale. Warmaster might be all infanty and cavalry, but Epic offers a really diversity of size, from the mighty Imperator to the lowly Ratling!
3. I like the 40K universe, but have yet to find a W40K rulest I like (2nd was closest)
4. You got a Titan in the old Space Marine boxset
5. All those other really important reasons that momentarily escape me

It still amazes me that with such poor rules, that 40K does so well ?! It must be that the figures are so well done. As in Epic !

Mmmmm yes the good old plastic warlord. My older cousin played AT and I just loved the minis. By the time I learned enough english to read the rules SM2 was released so that was the game I really got into. However the quality of some of the miniatures were decreasing during the early 90ies (the mk2 vindicator strikes me as a prime example of this ) and gradually I lost some interest. The release of E40k and the new miniatures (IG more than anything!) range really saved the day! Can't wait until EA is released along with some new models for the new units!

Ah yes, the Vindy Mk.2 ... I detailed them with hatches and a few other bitz and they look pretty good, (someday pics). Otherwise, I like most of all the Epic models (since I have a det. or two of each, from every release). With the E40K models being the most detailed but took the longest to paint (I'm still working on the E40K Orks!).

Hi!
The models from the early 90's are pretty "plain", later models are much more detailed and pleasing to the eye.
As for 40k rules...well..I bailed on 40k in the RT days, it was obvious then where the game was headed.....

For some strange reason the quality of many models took a plunge when the 2nd edition was released.
Mk2 Vindicator, mk2 Dreadnought, mk2 Leman Russ, mk2 Warlord (the horrible skeleton).
OTOH mk2 Predator and mk2 Gorgon were better than the AT ones.
Fortunately the new Vindicators, Russes and Chimeras fixed the situation.
The decline of Ork models didn't start until Titan Legions. IMO the AT era battlefortresses are still the best looking ones around, up to and including the Forge World models for 40k. And the "garbage can" scorcher is a classic!

Indeed. Lots of nice tiny mad crazy unnescesary detail! The Mk3 gargant (first metal version with the stokers platform and all) is still my all time favourite gargant. The Plastic Megagargant was just so horribly depleted of detail (NO RIVETS!!! Ork veichles must have LOTS of rivets!!!) and i never liked the head either. I don't know; it sort of lacks some board shoulders wiw sum good armoured housin' fer da boyz instead of the girder hell that is most of its upper superstructure. As for tanks... the Lungbursta never really goes out of fashion does it? Come to think of it -isn't it one of the only ork tanks not redone by the time of TL?

Yeah; I made a little dance of joy (well not really, but I would have had I not been in a Netcafe at the time) when Jervis announced that they'd be recasting the old Eldar titans for EA! Time to expand my eldar force again when they come out I think...

The Mk2 Vindy is pretty bad, but if you like to paint freehand, it's a great canvas. I have a couple to be painted as commanders with the Librarian and Chaplain symbols superimposed over the chapter insignia.
And you have to admit, they would be stellar for an orky looted conversion...

My single biggest problem with the mk2 Vindy was the size of the gun (and let's not get Freudian on that one ) -I mean how do you fit any shells inside the tank for that thing!
Anyway: I agree that the plain surface of these veichles are nice for converting. My chaos predators are also SM2 era models -It's reallt easy to sculpt skulls and stuff on the armour to really set them apart from their Imperial counterparts. (which are now all e40k version) I also like to think that the SM2 versions are the Heresy veichle patterns and the new models are the current versions. For this reason my chaos force also fields 3 mk1 Thunderhawk gunships.
