I've seen this has caused a large ruckus - with the author widely criticised for either a) making rumours up or b) blindly spouting GW propaganda that chapterhouse is responsible for every possible gripe they might have

Regarding the avoidance of sales bubbles, this is nonsense. If an item is not released, it can not be sold, and they will pay opportunity cost.

I also find the overall tone of "Chapterhouse is messing up our release schedule" to be distasteful, and reminds me of the Simpson episode "Rosebud", wherein Burns withholds TV and beer in order to pressure Homer into giving up Bobo.

Well not that I'm a G/W-F/W Fanboy ... but I'm not a fan of China getting away with any more copyright infringements ... Just like all the Spam we get from Russia, Hong Kong, Canadian Drug Companies, etc. ... they can get away with it and there is nothing we can do about it ... or to do something about it is cost prohibitive ... :P Fug'm !!! :P

Didn't they also threaten to not release a new edition of Blood bowl rules a few years back because some other companies were making figures that could work as star players? (i don't follow blood bowl at all, so not sure).

Yes, then published it but with all the 'fluff' text removed!

I am in 2 minds about this.

On the one hand I want CHS to win to puncture GW's arrogance a bit and make them realise that there are competitor products out there and that they need to be careful with their pricing structure or people will go for these alternatives.

On the other hand I don't particularly want to buy any of CHS's products and it would be unfair for GW to spend a lot of time designing the background and artwork for units only for another company to steam in and relase the models.

Either way the lawyers win!

:(

I am entirely sceptical about this. The bottom line appears to be that GW are not releasing miniatures because if they only release some miniatures, other companies will make the ones that they dont, and therefore have the legal high ground. But, there are two scenarios here - either this 'third party' releases a miniature based on a GW image, or they release something that is entirely different but could just be used in place. In the first instance, GW would own the image and therefore all derivations of it. By publishing a picture then they should own the deisgn and its use across different mediums. If you see a concept sketch of the new iPod, the design is owned by Apple and if you release an mp3 player, it cant look like that - even if yours comes out first. In the second instance, we are talking about two miniatures that are 'different'. They may both be six limbed aliens with large claws or armoured super-men on large wolves, but they wont share any aesthetics beyond a description.

So, I dont see how this is putting GW in any situation in reality. Coupled with the fact that this is a very accusationary message, makes me think that it is designed to garner support.

It's tangentially related, but all I have to say is: don't lose sleep over GW having any issues because of this lawsuit they filed themselves.
GW has its' own copyright, trademark and IP sins they've been flouting in your faces literally since the dawn of either edition of Warhammer and that now constitute key elements of both universes.
I won't bore you with details, but you can send me a PM if you really want to know what I'm talking about. :)
