Great concept - I wonder how long a human/bug wargame can last though, against the diversity of the GW universe.

Didn't I see they have already introduced a third race, or did I imagine that?

They have the skinnies, a high tech, raider race, that is slaved to the bug empire due to mind control bugs.  The skinnies can get free and fight the bugs, or MI....

They have already mentioned other races, and other lists for the current races.

The game is fun, fast and easy to get others playing (also a big win).

I really don't care about a GW slayer, but, as a game, I have bought SST and I would recomend it to others who like the genre.   I would not recomend wh40k even though I played epic for years.

The trouble in Canada is finding distributors for SST.

best regards

Dalton

I thought the skinnnies had been conqured by the Human forces (according to the book)?  Wasn't that the previous war Humanity had just finished?  I think I remember something at the end of the book about them rebelling...

The skinnies depicted in the game come from the CGI series.  Some of the skinnies are controlled by the bugs, while others are fighting the bugs.  The MI initially see the skinnies as a minor threat, then as potential allies (prejudices aside).

The list from the book has them set up as a bug controlled raiding force.  Priority level 1, small numbers of troops, with some very deadly weaponry.  They are very effective against troopers, less so against bugs.

Overall, the game has that human/zerg/protoss feel to it....

Dalton

Sounds good!

I remember thinking marine/tyranid/eldar when playing Starcraft  :;):

Hi Maksim,

The rulebook makes references to other races but does not give details about them.

Sony had some designs for "OLD ONES" for the second season of the CGI series that descriptions sound somthing like the zoats.

Here is a link to some fan art for the old ones
Starship troopers fan art

I don't know mongoose's contractual rights to the materials so everything is speculation.

If you want to see some more pics for 6mm ideas, try this site.

Unit Pics and Descriptions

From the wealth of material available, from multiple sources including fan fiction, it looks like a good franchise to take on 40k with.

Wish some of those pictures were larger. They look like they could be fun.

Larger?

:)

go to the miniature gallery at www.mongoosepublishing.com and look at the bugs, the tanker bug is over 9" long.  I have warrior bugs that stand 3" tall and have a leg spans of 4".....

The plasma bug preview picks make the tanker bug look tiny, over a foot long if you use the MI trooper for comparison.

Given the new product schedules for this game, I will run out of room in my basement for the rest of my collections.

best regards

Dalton

I wish the Pictures were larger not the bugs.

As 15mm is my only other scale I like to use for SciFi the 9" bug would be very large indeed.

I managed to get a copy of the rulebook only. Overall the game has a lot of good things to be said for it but (in my opinion) it also has a couple of strange quirks.

1) The command radius is a good thing. But WHY must troopers outside of it just stand still and not be able to move towards the others? I mean, am I supposed to believe that when you have fallen back a little you just stare stupidly as your comrades disappear over the horizon?  ???

2) Why use actions at all if the turn sequence is still IGO-UGO? Or rather, why have a turn sequence at all if using actions?

I've also heard that the minis are made of some unusual plastic with which regular plastic glue doesn't work but can't verify this since I only have the rulebook.

That said, IMO the minis are gorgeous. The MI troopers even have separate transparent visors.

Hi!

The game looks very nice and I'll admit I have been tempted, but I think another game has caught my fancy.... (see warmachine thread).

Hi, like the look of this game (how much fun was that film!?!), like the bug models (though I wish the marines loked like the ones in the film, not the tv series which I've not seen)...

But the big thing is, with 5 Epic armies, my ongoing 40k project of making an entire company of my Fire Storm Chapter Marines, and a Warhammer Chaos Army, I just don't have the time or finances to get in to another game.  To whit: I'm currently selling a load of VOID 1.1 stuff on ebay (sorry, shameless plug! :p )

The TV series is available on DVD for about $45 US.  For the entire season.  After I bought half of it individually.
