That reminds me, are the ships just the old AoG large scale ships?

If so, I have a pair of Earth Artemis Heavy Frigates in my bitz box. ?:;):

Hi Dafrca,

I dont know. I didn't collect B-5 minis before and didn't know the AOG line very well.

I can ask Eric and Chuck on Tuesday.

Great, it will be interesting to hear what they have to say.  :D

Maksim, I know well the 'friends who buy the rules' thing... Having just forked out for Starship Troopers, a second Warmachine army and a set of fighter combat rules at Bifrost yesterday

deathlynx, yeah, as far as I know the rules are staying the same, what they do seem to be doing is updating the basic boxed set with some extra ship templates and stuff...which may be worth waiting for if you dont already have it but kinda pointless otherwise...as you say, it aint been out long so a full revision would be scary...

dafrca, the actual ships are the old AoG ones, somewhat remodelled in some cases, but basically the same figs (or at least scale), the only thing it does differently is the fighters, where in B5 Wars they were quite big (think epic scale fighters, so as big as the main ships in cases), Mongoose use more 'traditional' sized fighters (ie, the same size as BFG).

From looking at the pics of the ships they are not the AoG models remanufactured...There's much more detail to them then the old ones...take the shadow scout for example, the AoG version has a ridged plate above and below while the new line has individual tentacles...They do appear to be aproximately the same scale however...

Oh, and the fighters are the same scale as well, I think you're thinking of the B5 Wars models as opposed to the B5 Fleet Action models...Mongoose actually did specify Fleet Action minis (as B5 Wars is a bigger scale)...

Really? I only own the Mongoose Narn caps and they are identical to my old AoG B5 Wars ones, but I must admit I cant speak for the entire range... All the ones I have seen at shows have been the 'bigger' B5 Wars ones too. A lot of people really disliked the Fleet Action figs (I own a fleet of Centauri but never got anything else), as they really are quite diddy (the Super Dreads, ie Bin'Tak, are only about 3cm long!) detail? dude, you obviously aint seen the amount of paint I put on figs...I dont notice detail

Yeah, essentially Mongoose use B5 Wars for the 'full size' ships, and Fleet Action for the fighters.  It always seemed weird the way AoG did it, although I do still plan on using the figs for some games of Silent Death when I get off my butt and do some rules for it :D

So the fighters are the smaller scale ones, and the rest of the ships are the larger scale ones? Did I get that right? ???

As far as I know yeah...Im as certain as I can be :p

deathlynx, you seem to have very different info to me, and I must admit I dont own the game, but I have played it twice at conventions (and managed to annoy Matt Sprange by insisting on blowing everything up :) ). Trouble is, I am a paranoid weirdo...and Im now wondering if the figs used at the cons were not official or something similar...although the G'Quan I own I am certain of ??? How sure are you deathlynx?

To be honest not all that certain...I know the fighters are certainly the old Fleet Action scale but you're right, at least some of the others do appear to be Wars sized so probably all of them are...Which of course is odd since I remember Mongoose mentioning Fleet Action specifically in regards to the tournie in Feb...Then again I also can't imagine the sheer size of the larger cruisers in Wars scale...I own a Fleet Action B5 Station and it's 4" long as compared to a 1-1/2" Omega...If they are even twice the scale then the prices are simply incredible...

Oh, and I have a ship on order through my local store so I'll probably know by the end of the week...

Ah, the station one I can probably answer...AoG only ever made the FA scale one, and it was used in both games, even tho' it was technically out of scale with the B5 Wars stuff, as you say, it would have been kinda scarily big (although Ground Zero Games do a B5-style space station which is around 8" long...very tempting :D ).

My G'Quans are about 3" long (I aint got em with me at the moment...), but they are very satisfyingly big. I always found it damn hard to decide which scale I prefered, as the B5 Wars ships 'felt' so nice and big, and had plenty of room to go nuts with paintjobs (like Narn cammo...), whereas the FA ships were really nice to play with because the ships tend not to get in the way as much (I usually play Full Thrust, where it can make a big difference...). I eventually got bullied out of using my FA ships for most games, as my opponents kept moaning about how my Superdreadnoughts were the same size as their Cruisers!  :p

Now that is funny. A game, that by it's very nature, that does not have ships even remotly in scale to either the game or to each other crying that your ships were too big.

Me, I would not care. In fact, do you know how much fun it would be to destroy your ships with my "much smaller" ships?  :;):

What can I say, some (and, in fairness it really is only some) people I game with are pedants?

I do appreciate the advantages of ships being vaguely in scale (it can speed up play, and is one big advantage of both players using figs from the same line...)...but I do like being able to get out my weirder fleets occassionally :;): Of course, someone could then be silly and turn up with a 200 strong 12" ERTL X-Wing force and want a game on an 8'x4' board :O :p :D
