It seems strange that the list can't be competative without Ferals. Is this intentional?

To be honest, when I hear something like 'Chaos doesn't work without ferals' it makes want to try them without. That and I don't any models for them....

How playtested was the list before declared 'finished'? It seems odd that noone values Daemons and that Superheavys had to have a limit on them. Was the list tested with a Main/support formation structure (like Guard, Eldar and Tau?)?

I have found daemons to be the main strength of the list - brilliant for devastating assaults, soaking up hits and making decimated units useful activations.

It takes practice to use them but when you get the knack they are vital.

For 3k games I always take at least 10 and for 5k up to 20.

I have fielded effective lists without ferals by using death wheels, bikes and lots of infantry (and daemons).

I don't see that ferals are any more vital for an effective BL list than mechanised companies for IG

They are an 'easy' unit to use, like warhounds. Their main weapon is MW, Ignore Cover, Barrage, so there is nothing it isn't good at shooting. And finally 300 points per activation is pretty good.
