Right-o, I'm going to make a full report of this game for submission to Firebase, but here's a condensed version:

The Chaos players advanced the bulk of their forces towards the Fortress, while on one flank they deployed their Land Raiders to counter the dual threat of two Predator formations, and on the other their Predators and Banelord to counter the Iron Hand's Land Raiders and Warlord Titan.

The first couple of turns definitely favoured the Chaos forces: fire from the two Basilisk formations began whitling down the Fortress Garrison as the Chaos Marines and Traitor Guard advanced to firing range.  Meanwhile, the Iron Hands teleported their Terminators to assault the Chaos Predators, destroying them - but they were in turn destroyed by the Chaos Chosen & Obliterators (losing two in turn).  The Thunderbolts launched an unsuccessful strike on the Basilisks, and were shot down at the end of the turn by the Obliterators attached to the Chaos Marine formation!

As the Marines on one side of the Fortress continued to get whitled down, the Iron Hands moved their tactical formation and Whirlwinds out of the otherside to begin to move round and counter-attack.  The Preds moved up to lure the Chaos Land Raiders to attack, losing 2 from one formation then breaking the Land Raiders with attacks from the other.

The Iron Hands launched their Thunderhawk to assault the Chaos Basilisks, the Assault Marines destroyed one formation but where broken by the firefight with the other...

On the other side the two Titans gunned towards each other; on the third turn the Warlord was in range to bring all its guns to bear and not only whittled down the Banelord's Void Shields, but inflicted a point of critical damage!  The Banelord bounded 18cm towards the Warlord in a Deamonic Rage, bringing it into assault range next turn, and ensuring the inevitable Titan mash-up would occur!

Things started to turn for the Iron Hands at this point, as the formations still in the fortress could now bring their guns to bear.  The Whirlwinds unleashed a devestating barrage on the Traitor guard, destroying 6 units & three tanks!  The Chaos players failed for the second turn in a row to activate the Decimators, and it seemed the Iron Hands were well positioned to encircle the Chaos forces in a well co-ordinated pincer attack from both sides...

But then it all went wrong for the Iron Hands!  The Banelord charged in to the Warlord, and in the ensuing combat the Warlord was knocked down to one DC, only managing to afflict one in return!  A successful (or un-successful) Critical Damage roll sent the Warlord packing, trailing plasma from its damaged plasma reactor.

A silly tactical mistake saw the Iron Hands move their Land Raiders away from the pincer attack, and launch an ineffectual attack on the Chaos Chosen.  On the other side the Chaos Land Raiders had rallied and were beginning to whittle away the Iron Hands Predators.  In another of the games memorable moments the Chaos players finally managed to activate their Decimators which unleashed 16 Reaper Autocannon shots and a full barage at the Whirlwind... without destroying a single one! :O  The traitor Tanks were far more effective, wiping them out without any problems.  The Chaos Chosen assaulted the Land Raiders destryoing four of them, breaking the last one (which rallied in the end phase however).

At the end of the 4th turn rather disappointingly the Warlord Titan managed to repair it's damaged plasma reactor (we wanted to see a big explosion, for shame! :( ) but failed to rally.  The fifth turn was the clincher: all that remained of the Iron Hands garrisoning the Fortress were 2 Devestator units and 4 tanks, and it didn't look like the Supreme Commander's formation was going to make it round in time to counter-attack.

The duel continued between the Predators and Chaos Land Raiders, with the Land Raiders broken again through weight of firepower rather than loss of actual units.

The remaining Land Raider moved up to support the Supreme Commander's for, ation as the Chaos Marines inevitably assaulted.  Although the Iron Hands succeeded in afflicting more kills they were unlucky with their dice roll and lost, breaking and falling back from the Fortress.

The Chaos forces could then concentrate all their fire on destroying the last of the Marines in the fortress.  The Tanks, then the Traitor Guard poured all their firepower in to the structure, killing the remaining Devestators and all but one Tank.  All that was left were the Hell Talons, whose final bombing run was sufiscient to finish off the remaining tank.

With no Iron Hands remaining in the Fortress, Chaos won the game!

Anyway, the result seemed irrelevant, it was a fantastically fun game, loads of carnage on eitherside, it had some great moments, and I was able to introduce two new players to Epic - which is always a great thing! :D

Now to write this up for E&C for Firebase...

Thanks for reading!

Very nice firestorm40k, love the use of 40k bits on the banelord, very good iron warrior feel to it.

The basilisks look nice as well.
