My personal life could be better, but at least work is keeping me busy for now. Thanks for asking. The good news is my Nephew is back from Iraq and we've managed to play a few games of Epic.

Fortunately he was there for only about 4 months. He's a fire fighter in the Air Force Reserves and pretty much stayed on and around the airbase in Kirkuk. So, no front line action for him.

Just back from a quick work visit to Hawaii.  Naturally, I made the time to visit Pearl Harbour memorials:

Great picture, Tas. I'm so envious, though. I haven't made it to Pearl Harbor yet. Someday. To stand on the teak decks of Mighty Mo and visit the hallowed grounds above the Arizona...

Who can complain when a box full of wargaming toys like this arrives?

AT-43 minis...a micro-Primarch's worth.
Well for me it is, I'm sure P himself would disagree!

There are some pics at my blog here:

Hey guys, long time no updates from the Tas man.  Sporry 'bout that but life has been its usual hectic stuff.
And yet, I've just finished my Masters thesis and now I find I have time for modelling, painting and playing again - hooray!

I've had a few games of AT-43 lately which was fun.  Built a dice tower. and a few other bits and bobs I've prattled on about at my general gaming blog http://tasmancave.blogspot.com/

I've also started building something much bigger than my usual 2 and 6mm scale - a 40k scale Russ Tank.  Im really enjoying it actually - I havent done a plastic kit in liteally decades!  :vD

I do have a confession to make though.  I'm gotten started into 40k.  BUT before you gather the wood and oil and burn me at the stake I have some good mitigation!

Basically, I'm a little tired of seemingly endless purchases and painting for games which nobody near me plays.   Its all a bit sad really.  So now that I have some hobby time back, I had to think about what I wanetd to do with it.  The answer was PLAY more - not just paint and model, but PLAY.  40k will give me that.  I'm not kidding myself about what the game is, but I want some fun and thats been missing.  Anyhow, I'm spinning up a 40k Imperial Guard Army (mostly using my AT-43 infantry figures) and will give that a shot.

Hope all is well with everyone.  I'm looking forward to kicking around here more often again.

cheers fellahs

Good to see you back, Tas. Congrats on finishing your Master's Thesis.

Given your lack of opponents, I don't blame you for getting into 40k. Just don't go too far over towards the Dark Side.  :vD

Hi Tas

Figured the quiet was you taking the time to unpack your mini-Primarch haul of AT-43!!

I can understand your reasoning on W40k. I dropped out of playing and collecting W40k 2-3 years back and concentrated on Epic and BFG. However there are not many people locally that play Epic. So I recently succumbed and got back into W40k by trying 5th edition.

I am not necessarily going to play it as often as I used to. I have no interest in playing the young kids who have no interest in the modelling and painting side and play W40k purely to win with competition style lists. But I have enjoyed playing W40k against older players with similar interest to myself.

In fact with one guy we have started playing a mult-system narrative camapaign of Imperials vs Orks with games of W40k/Epic/BFG. Then we can use the games of W40k for more scenario based skirmish games whilst Epic will be great for when we want a bib battle.

I hope you enjoy your time in W40k.

Cheers

James

Thanks guys.  I see it more as a deviant sideline rather than a traitorous defection!

I've still got all my Epic, VSF etc and will progress that.  I just feel like something different, and I guess its easier to avoid the powergamers and fanboys once you know they are there!

D/S - I must say Ive enjoyed my tertiary studies but after completing 2 Masters over 3 years I am more than a little over studying now!  Its great to rediscover hobby time
