Many thanks.  I've been lurking around here, trying to pick up some tips before my Marines arrive...

I play EA with my cousin a lot.  He still has trouble grasping a lot of the rules so I'm constantly reminding him and catching mistakes (both mine and his).  I never attributed my end of game head aches though to this.  Come to think of it though, both of the games I've played with DS left me head ache free.

What what you guys suggest as a means for getting my cousin a better mastery of the rules?  We usually play small games with no air, space or WE units.  Not yet anyway.

Epic is for the more mature, discerning gamer.  40K is "soda & Pretzels" for kids ... I wouldn't try to teach a 9 year old anything as detailed as Epic. Epic is like chess ... 40k Checkers ... IMO ... :)   After a 4-6 hour Epic game, on occasions I've had a headache and felt a little drained ... thinking gives me a headache !

hmmm. my boys much prefer it to 40k. Despite not being mature, they do seem to be discerning - at least in this case any way. (Or is it just that they're a pair of tread heads and love having loads of tanks and massive titans he-he)

and my 13 yr old's nasty at chess!

and don't diss checkers - it's a good game! 40k is more like ludo! :)

I'm glad to hear that. ?:D

If I had been 13 when Epic was released, I'm pretty sure I would have had no problems playing it. By 13 I was already playing Avalon Hill wargames.
