I think I'm starting to get paranoid with ebay bidders now. Are people having this problem? I let this bid go by because I was outbid 3 hrs before closing by a bidder with 0 history. I was willing to pay loads for this as I needed the last 20 berserkers to complete a whole company of them (something I started even though the rules don't allow it) Is it me, or am I being paranoid PS. Someone else bidded at the last sec http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws....MEBI:IT My original bit was ?15 but the price was at around ?12, but I up-ed my max bid to ?20 just in case I was off work. Then 3hrs before closing, someone with 0 history bid 20.77!! |

You aren't. Shill bidding is all too common on Ebay. As a matter of fact, I think I got shill-bidded on the Tyranid infantry auction which I "won" because, in fact, I lost it but was offered a second-chance bid by the seller. And the "winner" was someone with a rating of 4, and there was a negative feedback on the seller for shill bid. In that particular case, I was happy anyway with my purchase, but fishy behavior is rampant. You may want to check the negative feedbacks of a seller to get an idea (positives are useless; I wish Ebay could give a filter on feedback). |

But with troops composed by approx. 12-13 sprues, it was still a good buy at ?25.55, especially considering the ridiculous amounts Tyranid plastic is going for nowadays, so I completed it. He... I'm going to try my first attempt at stripping Epic infantry some time in January. I'll report back if I find something easy and successful. The problem is that "mint" OOP pieces command premium prices on Ebay. Better to sacrifice a few old SM - Ork - Guardian stands to look for a convenient stripping method... |

It's not just the stripping paint either, it's the mass amount of glue people use to stick tem to the base... the reason why I always use paint to stick them to the base  works quite well and with a bit of force, you can safely remove them from the base too.

I havent had that before although I normally bid in the last minute or so. If there is a price war then I can avoid and not bid. I have also heard that people have auto bidding programs or something which works while they are away but I havent a clue how that works. I found that if I stake my interest too early I pay way more than if I lleft it til last minute. Now I just have to avoid pipping a bid by a member of this group which isnt easy

Yeah, I wish I was online more often (limited during working hours). I'd love to bid last minute, but bitten too many times when I forgot and could have had a really good bargin. |

There are two issues you have tied together and I do not see them as tied. There is shill bids, where the owner uses another account to push up an auction. To discourage these people I never accept a second chance and I tell them why and report it to ebay as needing to be looked at. Then there is last moment bids. I have waited until the last few minutes to bid on an auction and know many others do as well. If you were out bid at the last moment and are upset, then you did not bid your real max. Once I bid, I try to bid my real max and if I loose, someone wanted to pay more then me. But like I said, if I think it is Shill bids, I reject the second chance and report them and tell the seller I am reporting them as a possable shill. dafrca |

If I bid early and then other people bidded way over my max, then I don't get upset. I guess when I do get upset is that my bid was probably set to ?20 and the bid was going for ?5 until the last minute and some-one-else wins the bid by ?21. It's hard to set a max price because everyone is trying to get a good deal. |

The only problem with that thinking is that you assume the other bid was for only the 21. For all you know, the bid they placed was for 50 and it stayed at 21 because you only bid 20. I won an auction once, the second runner up posted to a board I was on how upset they were I beat them out for only $1. They did not know it was me. What they did not know was my top price was more then $20 more then I got the auction for. Good deals are always fun to get, but if you put your bid at $20 and they bid $21 and got it and you were unhappy because you would have bid more, it was because you failed to bid what you were really willing to pay. To set a Max price is not hard, it is real easy. The Max is the amount you would pay for the item. If you put less then that, you are setting yourself up for disapointment. dafrca |

This is only true if you assume perfectly rational (i.e. Vulcan) behaviour. But we're not Vulcans....
