Well to start off the terrain forum I wanted to start a topic that was very near and dear to my heart when I started to collect terrain. I long time ago I decided to do a Western European theme for my terrian. ?Now in any kind of temperate climate terrian your going to needs tress, lot and lots of trees. So here are my tree related questions: 1. ?How to I make trees? 2. ?Where to I find pre-made trees? 3. ?What size should the trees be? 4. ?How should I base my trees in groups or as individuals?? ? Maybe this topic can be pinned to provided answers to new terrian makers. ? My answers to the questions to follow... |

Answering number 4, I would suggest basing them in groups, on a flocked base. This is so that you can say that any stand on the base can use that terrain type for cover purposes, avoiding such arguments as 'no my tank was in the trees! No, it wasnt!' my 2cents, iblisdrax |

I once saw someone use the branches of those ugly plastic Christmas trees. Perhaps not the best looking trees but you could easily fill the entire table with forest from a single tree. It might improve the look of the trees if you glue flock or foliage onto them. ![]() Cheers! ![]() |

My snow terrain uses small model pine trees, which are cheap (25p) but look very good when painted... They are about 6-8cm tall, but can quite easily be cut down due to their construction. I should be visiting my model shop in a day or two, so I'll check what brand they are then. ![]() |

I use K&M trees. They are individually based, though I have based a few on multiple bases. As seen in the corner of this picture: ![]() |

I have used a number of different types. I liked the G/W versions, but have used others. I also have used plastic vegetation for fish tanks (properly cut to size). Great for those niffy alien worlds ! ![]() |

I think it was terragenesis that showed an awesome way to turn wooden meat skewers into bamboo-like foliage by judicious use of camo green banding. It looked really impressive. Edit: It might have been "how to build wargames terrain" ; I forget where I saw it. |

All hail the tree herder!! ? ![]() Ok so you guys don't think I'm crazy when I say I should have done desert terrian board. ?But I'm to far gone now to be saved. ?Just pity me. ? ![]() So in EpiComm fashion ...pictures ...pictures ...pictures ...pictures ![]() I placed a 6-8mm Epic figure, a 15mm Napoleonic figure (AB), and a 28mm 40K figure in front of the trees to see how compatable the trees are with different games. The first set of pines was all pre-made trees that I ordered through my local gaming store. ?They are wire and a really hard flock. ?They came in three sizes. ?All three sizes work in the game, but have a different look and effect. ? As you can see the smallest tress are like small Xmas trees to the 40K guy while being tall pines to the epic soldier. ?Unfortunately I don't remember the manufacturer of these trees. ?They do look great so if any one knows what they are please let me know. The next group is Woodland Scenics. ?This is your basic plastic trunk with foliage glued on. ?They look good and give a more rural farm look. What is scary I have a 60 more sitting on the shelf. The last group is some fall trees I picked up long ago. ?They tough and they work ok. ?I few of these mix in gives a nice effect. Well here are the pictures. Enjoy Trees |
