Excluding the Cathedral and Tank Factory for the moment, is the rest of the Forge World Epic terrain line worth getting, both in a "looks" sense and a value-for-money sense?

I like it alot, but I think there is better value for your money out there.

However, none of it is intentionally GW 40k themed although the addition of plastic and metal bitz can rapidly turn another manufacturer's piece into a GW sci-fi universe piece.

I love the FW scenery... It is beautifully detailed and well themed, and I plan to buy more when I have some money!
Expensive perhaps- but the buildings are big blocks of resin, so in quantity of material you get value for money! :p

Many of the buildings are worth it, but I personally don't think the roads and fortifications are - too easy to scratchbuild something which looks just as good.

The terrain is very nice, but some are  too big and too expensive for me ... :;):

I agree. The actual gothic buildings and bunkers are really nice but the dugouts, roads etc. is money better spent elsewhere. MInd you: some of the moulds are getting a bit worn so you might ger stuff where the walls of buildings have a "spider web-ish" texture to it. It's no big deal as the pieces paint up well anyway but still nothing beats a crisp cast from a new mould...

Cheers! :)

The smaller buildings are very nice, and I love the fortification lines. I'm not sure the roads, pillboxes, dugouts... are worth their price, though.

Other then to say I agree, there is not much else I can add.

We loved the buildings we bought, but the cost was much higher then other manufacturers stuff. You are paying for the name as much as the detail.

Agree with all - nice but not economical.  I have a few, fleshed out with other stuff, including some home built pieces.

Anzacmaniac's bunkers and fortifications shown here recently are an excellent example of the high quality nonGW stuff available in the same scale.

My favorite terrain is mostly the non-GW stuff although the E-40k ruins sprues will always be a brilliant piece.

So, basically, the smaller buildings are better than the dug-outs and emplacements, and the jury is still out on the defense line?

I have the defence line, and I must admit that I like it. I could probably build one, although not as good and I just dont have the time. It is actual not bad value for what you get. I also have a couple of the smaller buildings, which are nice to throw in as key structures or objectives. I wouldnt spend over about ?25 on FW buildings - so the up and coming Epic version of the 40K fortification walls are probably out.

Hi!

I had my seige terrain custom made by Ron Dubray, who now sculpts for Reaper and the CAV line. He made great stuff and even painted it for a fraction of what the FW pieces cost.

Thank my star I bought enough of it when it was available.
