I am looking for ideas and opinions on how to base epic models for an arctic look.
I have a marine army that I bought from a friend years ago that is a white color scheme. The models were based on the old squares and primed white. I have since painted them, and I would like to add something to the bases because they are rather plain.
Since he originally created them as an arctic force, I would like to keep that in mind. And one of the local shops has an arctic board, so that's handy.
However, I would also like to be able to field them on a woodlands board without them looking silly or heinously out of place.One idea is using ice blue paint in patches and flocking with grass while the paint is wet. The idea would be to create an effect where patches of grass are peeking through the snow. The blue would give a bit of a snow-shadow background. I could also mix in some brown flock and/or brown static grass.
Or, to go for a more rocky appearance, ice blue paint and a bit of gray/brown sand. Same basic idea, but less woodland-ish.
The third alternative would be to just flock the bases with brown and green and leave the edges of the bases white.
I would like to hear any other ideas before I begin doing test stands.
BTW, someone (Tuffskull maybe? For Grimnar?) was asking a while back about flocking for snow and talking about using baking soda and such. In the US, Scenic Woodlands has a snow flock available by the quart.
