Okay, this is weird concept, but I am determined to do a prop Powered Armor suit, partially because the mentally unstable part of my mind wants to do it, part because IMO it would be a perfect method of intimidating my opponent. Just imagine yourself in the middle of a tournament coming into an opponent that not only wears a complete suit of what looks like a Powered Armor in Dark Angels colors but also keeps reciting the Dark Angels Chapter's litany! However, I need some advice on materials I should use... oh, and I know some people have 3D models of PA. This would come handy too, if any of them could hand me a copy. I'm thinking of including a few utilitary elements to the suit, for example the chest plate will include an empty compartment, where I intend to have stuff like a discman and some refreshing liquids (accessible to the wearer by method of a connected straw going into the collar). There will be a set of headphones taken apart and installed into the sides of the helmet too (so that I can listen to music CD's), plus the backpack will also fulfill the standard purpose of backpacks (eg. carrying stuff inside). Okay, what do you think of this mad idea? What's your advice? Should I report to the nearest asylum or rather start working on this? |

Your crazy... I think you need to use light materials, like aluminum, to build the suit. also, lots of ventilation, and make sure it is easy to move in, you don't want to be stuck in the middle of a convention on your own in the middle of a fire drill! Can't think of anything else right now, but I'll get back if anything else comes to me |

Completely mad. Actually one local wargamer did one better than power armour. He made a dreadnought suit... lots of cardboard boxes and spray paint went into its manufacture. Now thats crazy. ![]() |

Hi! Insane! ![]() If you could make it in plastic that would be good. Light and malleable. Primarch |

No doubt about it, as crazy as I am. ![]() There are several sites around about how to make your own Imperial Stormtrooper armor. I would suggest you do some googling about that and use the instructions for materials & techniques found therein. EDIT: Ah ha! I knew I had one around here somewhere. Check out DH2. Oh, and if you manage to pull it off remember that little rule about pic posting... ![]() |

I think that the Mojarn's link just answered some construction problems... okay, but it will not be plastic - rather made from stuff like plastic pipes of various sizes and some of them cut a bit, and lots of cardboard. Oh, and Tom, this idea was lurking in my skull for quite a few YEARS, actually... long before I first posted on the EA playtest boards, actually... |

If you're working in curves the best solution is probably papier-mache on a chicken wire 'frame'. I'm beginning to sound as if I've done this myself, let me qualify, I've helped in costuming for school plays. |

Excuse for my idiocy, but how can I make some paper-mache that does not fall apart? ![]() I remember having such a project at school, like 5 or 6 years ago, and don't ask how it came out - it didn't. ![]() So, what ingredients, proportions, etc. It might help a lot. |

Try leather gloves for the gauntlets so you can still play. |

Best way is to tear the newspaper in strips, a couple of inches wide, the full length of the paper. Mix up a batch of common or garden wall-paper paste, apply to paper strip and build up layer after layer on to the frame that you've shaped (normally chicken wire as I've said though basins and balloons are good also, depending on what shape you require.) |

Movement will be a bummer, especially tilting the head... |
