Quote (Cuban Commissar @ 28 2004 Jan.,09:33) | Hey guys,
Well I finally cracked open the manual that came with my digital camera and learned all sorts of cool stuff. ?I think you'll agree these photos are better then the last ones. ?
So without any further delay may I present the full force of Solar Admiral Baugus' Task force 54.
The Fleet in seen here escorting convoy #17. ?The ships contain troops and equipment destined for the Eastern fringe. ?A counter to the Tau aggresion witness during the Cadian gate struggle. ?
Enjoy
Task Force 54
vanvlak,
There is a tribute to Maltese history in the naming of the ships. ?Can you spot which one?
 | Got it! There's a fuel transport which goes by the name Ohio! I'll admit I was in a panic when I first saw the pics, because I initially hadn't relised there was more than one page, and couldn't see anything in the first! Felt terribly daft! Incidentally, one of the transports, the St. Mary, could also be equated with the arrival of the Ohio here - this was on the 8th of August 1942, the feast of Our Lady of Victories, something very significant for the local population. I guess those two ships will watch out for each other. Modelling idea - a damaged Ohio lashed to a Cobra and a Sword, one on either side - Penn and Ledbury?
Great photos and ships, by the way - I like the fleet tanker/support ship look of the cargoes and tankers. Terrific work!
PS - does the Ohio's sister harbour a Genestealer? Only wondering...

By the Emperor, seeing an Imperial task force in all its glory really warms my heart! That's a stunning fleet you have there my lord admiral.

Is that the way how Genestealers arrived to Malta? "If there're multi-armed things, in your neighborhood. Who ya gonna call? ORDO XENOS!"

Nostromo = Alien = chestburster = sim to GS, although these are nicer as they don't make such a mess.

Wow! I love the fleet! Are you planning on adding any more Battleships? It seems to have a lack of them for a fleet that big.
Cheers
Chris

Lovely fleet CC.. I really like the 'gunmetal/green' look of the Defiant and some of the other ships, it looks great and gives your fleet an extra bit of character...

Thank you guys
Appreciate the comments. ?
Vanvlak,
You are right. ?The tanker is named for the famous WWII Ohio. ?The tanker that limped it's way into Malta's harbor to keep the brave and resolute island fighting.
Modelling idea - a damaged Ohio lashed to a Cobra and a Sword, one on either side - Penn and Ledbury? |
Tank would be a nice peice, really inspirational. ?Of course I don't know if I could buy a FW transport to hurt it. ?Maybe in the future.
Chris,
No more battleships for me. ?The Retribution is my ship of choice and the other battleships just don't apeal to me. ?I was tempted with the new all lance battleship, at one point. ?Then I just decided to keep with one BB.
stormseer,
The gunmetal green actually look is caused by a can of GW matt varnish that came out a little glossier than it should have. ?Of course I liked the look so I kept using the can. ?Now I have some newer ships, which you can tell in the photos, that come in much plainer looking now that original can is gone. ?Quality control right...
Other than that is is nothing but drybrushing on the green parts of the ships. ?I like simple
On the names...
The Saint Mary is a BFG spin of the Queen Mary, the famous liner used as a troop transport in WWII. ?But I really like Vanvlak's link back to the Ohio. ?I should have named the convoy "Pedestal."
My wife is a huge Alien fan so I had to name some ships as a nod to those movies. ?Funny she said she would never let me have a Tyranid army in the house. ?and yes the Nostromo is reporting some strange activity. ?
On a other note when I named my ships I decided to always keep the name of the ship, but if the ship was completely destroyed in a game, I would re-number the ship. ?This would provide a nice story line and history to each ship. ?So when the "DMS Admiral's Fool XXI" showed up on the board you had to ask what has happened to that ship, or in this cases it's predecessors. ?Like the Star Trek's Enterpirse
"There are still lots of letters in the Alphabet..."
Now because of skill and mostly luck, , I am the master of the disengage. ?The names of the ships will indicate that I've had success pulling them out of the fire, except one.
Can you guess which ship is named after the wife. ?It's very hard to explain to your lovely partner how the only ship in your entire fleet that has been destroyed has her name on it. ?I think my opponents are trying to get me in trouble.
Thanks again take care

If I had to name one ship after my girlfriend I'm afraid it'd be "dictator"...
Cheers!

If she ever sees that little comment then a murder or a carnage would most likely be the correct one...

Mojarn,
It gets worst, plasma overload...twice
"Hi honey, how the game go.
Well funny you should ask."
Nice,
Can you imagine and entire chaos fleet named after our beloved ex's. I don't think we could post some of those ship names.

I could have a huge chaos fleet by naming the ships after the persons our friendly HR department. A Tzeentch fleet no doubt...

Hi CC, your 'Ohio' has sunk me.... in between the chinks of 40k space marine army completion, when I should have been painting Landspeeders, or at least, Epic Eldar....I started a BFG Imperial transport....I guess after painting the odd Ork and Chaos ship, I'm turning Imperial.
