Well this topic has been raised time and time again. I'm not really sure if the Chaos fleet needs a real Light cruiser but when i was playing around with some bitz I came up with this simple design: a Repulsive prow with a plastic cruiser rear part and an Imperial bridge. Now if only GW would start selling BFG bitz again so it was actually affordable to build these things...

Just a random thought - that ship looks like it'd be very tough.  What if instead of making it a normal CL that's a fast cruiser (aka the Slaughter in the Chaos fleet), it was slower, had better shields than most CLs, and a good amount of weapons?  More of a defence than a scouting ship.

Anyways, that's what I thought when I saw it :)

That looks like the 'Heavy Escort' cruiser that I imagined for allowing for a 'slow' Chaos Fleet. Lots of Grand Cruisers.

My suggestions:

FP5 L/R 30cm
S1 FLR 60cm
S4 Prow Torps

90*
20cm Speed
4 Hits
5+ Armour
1 Turret
1 Shield.

Used as cheap access to some tons of Grand Cruisers. In fact,I'd also suggest fleets with majorly 'these' as cruiser gain access to GCs as Heavy Cruisers too.

Use a Chaos fleet in a very more 'odd' way. Basically tranding speed for wide torp access and 'heavy/light' displacement rather than 'Very Medium'
