Seeing that the 3rd edition plastics I have are made from happy meal plastic that doesn't seem to bond with superglue, plastic cement or anything else outside of greenstuff and wood glue after it's been roughed up. And seeing that the said plastic is very rubbery and fibrous and resistant to scraping mould lines off. I decided that it was taunting me and needed to get whipped into shape.

And after a week of srcying the various mech variants of the models that I actually LIKED I've managed to scrounge two lances of three mechs each.

The first lance is a Battlemaster BLR 1-Gc, Griffin GRF-6S, and a Stinger STG-5G. The second will be the Warhammer WHM-4L, Wolverine WVR-8K, and the Wasp WSP-3S. At least according to BV, both of those are fairly balanced and pretty close in tonnage. Of those most can work as is on the model so no converting needed, but I just couldn't abide the griffin model I had so it was the first under the knife. This is the result so far:

Nice.

Though I must point out that a lance is supposed to have four mechs... ;)

I realize that... My plans for the minis changed rather dramatically when I found out how uncooperative the plastic is. There was supposed to be an Archer, Rifleman, and shadow hawk done up but it might just end up the shadowhawk and archer since I can't really change the barrels on the rifleman. It all depends on how this first set goes.

Be careful with the Shadow Hawk - the autocannon likes to bend, and the laser on the arm is rather flimsy. I'd recommend replacement, if possible.

The Rifleman sucks anyway. You're not missing anything. ;)

pitty.... i love how the rifleman looks. Anyway, if possible I'm going to try to seat the autocannon on the shoulder instead of stowed on the back like it is now. I've had a tad bit more success with super glue so with that and greenstuff I should be able to secure it. Not sure about replacing the laser though. Might end up more trouble than it's worth. I'm looking at making the 11CS or 12C version of the shadow hawk which means I'll need to turn the autocannon into a PPC and add in some missile launchers.

I suspect drilling a hole and inserting a paperclip could do the job with the laser.

In regard to making it a PPC - I think all you would need to do is thicken the barrel, and even that might not be necessary. The Griffin and Battlemaster's guns are PPCs, as are the Warhammer's arms, and there's plenty of variation there.

still easier said than done. the glue still won't adhere correctly to it. I'd probably have better luck fixing it like I did the Griffin's arm laser.

I believe sanding that plastic rather helps. Don't hold me to that, though. Washing it might also help.

Why yes, those are definitely obvious things for you to have tried already. ;)

Slight update, I finished the hole fixes and other adjustments like adding missiles in the launcher to the Battlemaster which gives me the first three ready for painting.

Well I spent a good bit of last week thinking about what I could do with the warhammer and wolverine. I decided that since there was so many problems with the warhammer cast to just do a simple torso turn and angle the arms out from the sides slightly to make it feel less cramped. The wolverine got a bit more with one leg re positioned, the arm moved and the torso turned. I would have had more painting done on all the various things I'm working on, but I guess I'll just settle on these cleaned up and the razorbacks primed.

now on to painting these six mechs.

After much effort, probably far more than necessary, I've finished up two of the three mechs for the first "lance". The Battlemaster will be done soon but with the extra scaling type detail on the various areas I decided that it needs a bit more attention to paint properly. I'm mostly happy with how these turned out. These are mechs from the Draconis Combine Ryoken-Roku unit.

Awesome stuff Vaaish. Those plastics can be made to look good.

How did you do your bases?

Those are awesome.

Ryuken, BTW. The Ryoken is what they call the Stormcrow.
