So, GW are now asking for £2.25 for 9 Warmaster bases. This seems a little.... crazy expensive! So, are there any alternatives? They dont need to be exactly the same size, but approximately would be good. And, yes, I know that I could just cut up plasticard, but I would prefer to buy pre-cut. Plastic or metal work, but I dont like working with wood or MDF.

Genius! Thank you. I even have a load of those for this purpose in storage that I had totally forgotten about.

Pendraken sells MDF bases. No idea how good they are, or how thick or anything.

I bought a bag of those about a year and a half ago and I got nine sprues of bases (three per sprue). Have they changed it? Might be worth calling mailorder just to check.

Alternatives? Spend £2 on a sheet of plasticard with the same thickness. Use a steel rule and a sharp knife to cut up whatever size bases you need.

Wow. There are certainly some good alternatives out there. Its a wonder that GW sell any at those prices and with that competition. Thanks all.

Peter Pig, Magister Militum, Kallistra all sell 40x20 (warmaster) size plastic bases for 10p each. I'm sure there's others.

I would usually pitch in with I'd sell you some at this point, but having had 10,000 made a few years ago for myself, I am rather terrifyingly down to my last 200!!! :o

"Terrifying" doesn't begin to describe that. Wow.

Better than flight bases. I thought it'd be nice to put an Eldar army on small flight bases, until I found that they're £2.50 for 5...

I've ended up pinching an idea from one of the lads at a recent tournament, and I'm using tuppences. Modern ones are ferrous, so will stick to magnetic sheet. So 2p per base. Not 100% settled on how (and if) I'm going to elevate any of the grav tanks beyond the putty I'll be using to do the basing.

10,000 bases! :o You must have an insanely large collection and gaming area! I thought I was bad for having bought maybe 200-300ish.

As for flying stands I've just bought clear plastic rod and use sections of that e.g. on my Vulture back from a time when I made/found time to paint:

It's good as you can vary the height and use different sizes of thinner rod for jetbikes, jetpackers, ect e.g.:

As for bases, I've bought up a lot of 1.5mm ply ones from eBay, which I like because they're neatly cut, the same height as Warmaster bases and they come in lots of sizes and shaped. I've not painted any yet and I've recently started wondering/worrying how long they will last though.

Anyone have any experience on this? So long as I paint them and maybe varnish the undersides to seal that too should they be ok for decades to come? Or will they wear out or warp and I should go for acrylic instead?
