I was listening to a few back episodes of 40K Radio, and they were talking about goals, and it got me thinking. I wondered what state I would like to be in at the close of 2011, and if I could then set myself monthly goals to get there.

I know that we are currently only in October, but I want to be able to plan and set this up so that I am ready to go on 1st Jan. This will be limited to painting and modelling only (not rules development, web site improvements, etc, which will be in addition) but can involved anything vaguely miniature/painting related (for example, I have some non-wargames stuff that I want built and painted). So, I am going to have a think about what I want to have done by the end of December 2011. I suspect that this will involve at least one Epic army painted up to 3000 points (and a core one, probably Orks at this point) and maybe two small Hostile Stars fleets. There may be other things. Once I have this list, I will break it down into monthly tasks (probably varying what project I work on to try to stay interested), and keep the progress on my blog (link in my sig, if you dont follow it, why not???). I am notoriously bad at this kind of thing, so I dont know how long it will last, but it would be great it I come out the end of next year with some real progress.

Anyone else going to jump on this with me?

Let me know what, hypothetically, you would like to have completed by 31st December 2011.

I will.
And I bet I'm worse at this than you (cf the monthly challenges and ToEG!)

So here goes:
1) I still have 6 unpainted Forgeworld 40K models. These have to be done by the deadline.
2) I am experimenting with my first real gameboard (still a few inches short of 4' x 4') - by the deadline I want to have constructed one I am designing, and which can survive without damage in a damp environment (our cellar).
3) I want two small Epic armies completed. ANY two. My best bet would be Eldar and Imperial Knights.
4) I want to have found a place for a model railway and designed the layout.
5) My Skaven for WH have to be complete.
6) Either Tau or Dark Eldar or Necrons for 40K completed.
7) Two small VSF forces (Land Ironclads or Aquanef, probably) completed.
8) One aeroplane kit to be completed.
9) one small historical force completed
10) 1 small fleet (any type) completed
11) 1 LOTR Mumak completed

oh dear...... I can already see I'm overstretching myself.....

You have to admire that E&Cs Space Orks and Anime Fish, and his AC duties, are done in his spare time, when he's not working on his rules and modelling that he does for a living. ::)

I wish I had that kind of focus.

I saw your blog, v.... my fault??? ;)

Anyway, I have pinned this thread. If you want to be involved in the project, use this thread as the hub - post links to where-ever you discuss it, notify people of updates and discuss your thoughts on other peoples progress and ideas. That way, we only need this one thread for it.

I have been thinking about this. While I have several projects that I want to look at over the next 15 months, this project will only deal with the painting ones. I have spent too long as a wargamer without cohesive forces for the major games that I enjoy. In addition (unlike vanvlak! ;D ), I will concentrate on the minimum that I want to get done each month, leaving myself room to do other stuff if I have the time, paint in different directions as new stuff catches my eye, and take cut down months and still hopefully complete the set goals.

I started thinking about what state I want to be in at a minimum by the end of next year. By then, I want to have one completed 3000 point Epic force, and two small fleets for Hostile Stars, and my Genestealers and Terminators painted up for Space Hulk. So, that is the minimum right now. In addition, I may add two historical/ancient forces if I can fit them in to my schedule. I also have a couple of model kits (more on those in the near future) which I want to get done, but which require additional parts, etc and so may be difficult to fit into a tight schedule.

Any extra time over the year will go towards a second Epic force (probably my Genestealer Cult and/or Eldar), although these are unlikely to make it into the challenge officially. I will try to concentrate on these smaller forces so that I have things complete, not half done, and that means that I have several things waiting in the wings - 6mm WWII, CAV and '40K stuff' (40K minis, but not for 40K).

Also, like vanvlak, I will use the prequel three months as preparation. To get this list ready, I need to assemble all of the Space Hulk Genestealer force for October 2010 (all my Space Hulk minis are standard 40K minis bought to replace the Space Hulk ones), assemble my Space Hulk Terminators (November) and December will be used for any delays and minis unassembled, and to put together the 3000 point Epic Ork army list.

Lets see how this all works out!

From vanvlaks new 2011 blog...

Quote:
Task one includes 6 unpainted Forgeworld 40K models: a Baneblade, a Spore chimney (I have a second one which is complete), a Tau Barracuda (I have two - one awaits transfers, the other is not yet started), an Ork Battlewagon (being converted), an Ork Fightabomma and a Necron Pylon (big!).

You, sir, are either mad or far braver than I am! :o

No, just more prone to getting carried away with these challenge things. Wonder if the blog will survive day 2!

And yes, it's your fault this time round :) :) :)
