I'm used to playing a variety of 28mm games, and am in the process of delving in to Epic: Armageddon. However after Salute yesterday I'm also deeply, deeply tempted by 15mm wargaming. Currently though I'm completely unsure of what ruleset is the most commonly used, to allow me to mix and match models from different companies.

Any recommendations?

Sci fi, fantasy, or historic?
I'd assume the first, correct?

That would be FWC (future war commander) or ASLII (alien squad leader 2). Both give a stand some sustainability.
If you prefer individual models... Still StarGrunt?

For skirmish level I'd go Stargrunt, for larger actions FWC.

Tomorrow's War is due for around september.
It will be a SciFi version of Force On Force (Ambush Alley system).

EDIT : "Tomorrw's War", and not "Future Wars"

Flogus, How does FoF play? I've played ambush alley and was wondering how FoF compares?

Sorry, I should have mentioned it was sci-fi. I've had a look at FWC before and not been overly keen on the orders system, though I understand why it's there.

By Stargrunt, a quick search on GZG came up with Stargrunt II. I'm guessing that's bound to be it. ASQL2 looks good, I'll probably pick up a copy of that in a couple of days and have a look through it, cheers.

Well ... I don't know ::)
Last winter, I bought some 15mm SciFi miniatures. And I looked for a rule to play them.
I collected informations about Stargrunt II, Alien Squad Leader 2, Future War Commander. And none seduced me. So I wait for Tomorrow's War even if I can't find real informations about Force on Force rules.

I own FWC, as part of my collected research on 6mm games. When I started with Epic, I stopped looking even though it was top of my list :)

I peruse FWC maybe once a month, just to see if it ever grabs me. It hasnt yet, but I will likely need to force myself to play since the FLGS I moonlight at is bringing on Dark Realm Miniatures at my request, and I need to sell SOME kind of game to go with it :) (and then give the secret handshake telling the people about the free games out there!)

Dirtside can be done in 15mm, right? That looks really promising to me as well.

Forgot, the people around Alternative Armies (inc 15mm.co.uk) are doing another 15mm, skirmish, right now.
Something like old Firefight(?) and on square'd terrain.

I still have the Laser Burn rules for 15mm minis. They go back over 20 years and I have many fond, nostalgic memories of the game.

It's available from 15mm.co.uk along with a decent selection of minis.

From my understanding, this was a predecessor to the first 40k rules. Anyone know anymore about LaserBurns heritage?

I've played SGII at 25mm and it's a pretty fun system. The close combat rules leave a bit to be desired however. I once had a situation where I won a close combat and the enemy stayed put and my troops ran off.... :(

Laserburn was created by Tabletop Games if my memory servers. Certainly pre-dates 40K as I got my copy in a Games Workshop store before they had joined forces with Citadel and become the giant they are now.

Game is percentage based IIRC....still got the books somewhere.

Pre-dates 40K, and was (by all accounts) the inspiration and precursor for 40K. The designers ended up working for GW, and shortly after Rick P released Rogue Trader.
