Hey all! I'm taking a break from 6mm for a little while (until Exodus Wars release those trench troopers!) in order to work on an army that will be sold on eBay once it's done; I got these miniatures off of my friend "S" (I'm not allowed to type his name online!) as a swap for my Epic Imperial Guard (who are being replaced) and hope that the cash derived from the sale will bring me enough dosh to make a profit and buy some new - smaller - geek toys in the future :-)

Started with this lot: Image

Then built it all into this:
Image

The bases are textured with 'piedra pomez' coarse pumice which is a mix of resin and pumice paste.
The whole army is going to be done really dusty, dark and battered: those T.Sons have all taken a bit of a beating over the years what with being suits of walking armour! Demons won't be pink but fleshy which will be another theme bringing the army together then there will be a lot mud bases, paint chipping and weathered gold to do.

Here's a close up of the three 9 man t.sons squads that form the shooty core of the army:
Image
You can see the icon bearer and (minor) sorcerer conversions. If you look closely at the group shot you'll also notice a lord on disc and slightly converted (less spiky, no horns) terminators.

Undercoated them all today and hope to get a test scheme done in the next few days.

That Lord of Change really was a bitch yeah! Too bad that I then broke my one pinning tool trying to pry bits off of the disc rider before drilling the Greater Demons base and leg pins!

Thanks for the first comment SG!

Looking good MOK, I to have been having a dabble at the normal gw size figures at the moment, Enjoy painting them but they just seem to take way to long to paint! 6mm is so much quicker and look better with hundreds of the little buggers than the large stuff.

Look forward to seeing what you do with these guys, Also the paint pot goes down way to quick aswell, and inks just disapear!

Good luck and look forward to some more pics regards epic

Yes! I find they take a while too but once I get used to churning them out in a production line all will be fine!

Here is my test figure for you all:
Image

Constructive criticism and feedback would be appreciated: what do people think of the 'gold/bronze' in particular: any hints for colours to use for that weathering? Does the muddy/dusty effect work for you or would you prefer a cleaner mini? Can you notice the paint chips? If not do you think they should be more 'defined': currently they are sponged on.

ANY and all C+C is welcome :-)

Hi Mok, The minature looks fine but have a few suggestions to try another test piece to see if you prefer that way,
Not sure how you paint your minatures but i normally spray the minature all white with a very light coat of skull white, detail the eyes, i would suggest red for yours or the lime green gw colour what ever its called! Then the main base coat leaving any areas white that will be painted bright colours i.e like the gold bits, once painted a good wash with black ink! It looks great and brings out all the detail, then hi light some of the gold areas.

Personally i prefer a clean cut mini but everyones different, im not into hi lighting with white as i find it can be overdone to easilly, Thats my input and there are no criticicsms on your paintwork just suggestions as im no pro painter.

Regards epic

Looks pretty good, i like the gold. The highlights on the bolter could be neater and the blue armour highlights (such as on the thighs) are a bit sharp, could feather them in more at the join, but depends if you are going for gaming or display. The silver on the gun/bullets stands out, it is very bright/clean compared to the rest of the mini which is weathered, gun barrel needs drilling or a black dot.

Look forward to seeing more.

Yes, I think that the eyes need a kittle work too and looking at the picture have only just noticed the solid metal bolter!

Also agree about the highlighting: too stark for 28mm: how do you "feather"?

Agree that the silver areas need weathering too and have got just the thing.

In Wales visiting GlynG for the weekend so won't be able to progress on this one!

Whadda people think?
Just working on two Rhino's at the moment and still have another 2 squads of rubrics, 5 terminators and the Lord of Change to do. Might add some possesed in there too but will see how it goes.

Marines look great and i really like the daemons. On the dread id be tempted to tidy up verdigris (looks 'splashed on' at present) and tidy up or remove the coloured missile tips (look somewhat unevenly painted currently, even in the distance pic and very noticeable in the close-up). Not sure the very close-up close-ups of the lord are doing him any favors at tabletop/gaming standard, likewise the dread's head. Looking forward to seeing the Lord of Change painted up :)
