Hello everyone, here are some pics of the space board (8'x4') I painted for our wargaming centre. ?It hasn't been varnished, which I'll do eventually.

Included is part of my Space Marine fleet (still unfinished after having them over 6 years :glare: ) to show that, err, it's for games like BFG... ?:confuse:

Here are some of the asteroids: cut some polystyrene packaging in to cubes, pick off bits to make them look asteroid shaped, then spray them with primer (not too much, though!). ?This eats in to the polystyrene enough to give them that cratered look. ?Then I dipped them in watered-down PVA, sprayed them black, then painted them. ?Starting with Bestial Brown, then either Snakebite Leather, Bleached Bone, Fortress Grey; or Shadow Grey, Codex Grey, Fortress Grey and Skull White. ?Finally, I flicked white paint on the bases, then sprayed them with varnish to toughen them up.

I've some more of these to paint, then I'm going to make some gas-clouds made from Cotton Wool.

Thanks for looking! :)

Good paint job on the board (and asteroids).  I went for the pre-painted felt cover instead.  I did not want to tackle the astral painting!

Lovely paint job on the board, how did you produce the nebulae/ dust clouds?

Wow that really must be the best  gameboard i have ever seen. Have you used the tooth brush to sprinkle all the stars on the board? Any info on the gas clouds? Are they made with areograph or just painted?

@ Recidivist & dicnar, they were sponged on with, erm, paint dipped sponges! :D I smudged it out so it didn't look blotchy, and tried to blend it in with other colours - either red, blue or purple, with a bit of white thrown in.

And yes, the stars were done by flicking paint from an old toothbrush! :D
