Hmmm... I'd assumed she was older than that (I put her mid-20's).
Well, the XO's also the [spoiler alert]
the Crown princess of one of the major powers, and the (little sister?) of the Captain's old vanship Navigator, so that can help explain her 'tender years' for the responsibility level.
Yep, that's the Silvana, Tas. 8" guns in the forward turret, and I believe 5" DPs in single mounts down the sides, with a large fixed broadside, as well. She's about half to two-thirds the mass of a conventional ship-of-the-line, with the exact same powerplant. Makes her faster and carry more armor. In addition, she carries several 'squadrons' of vanships (really flights of 4, but each squadron has a different paint scheme), 6 in total IIRC.
The eggbeater thing at the tail is part of the lift/engine unit.
Also, don't let the apparent tech level fool you. Last Exile is a [spoiler alert]
'Lost Colony' sci-fi story. It just happens to resemble a flying version of pre-Dreadnought combat.

Hi all, Kolonel Kizhe's Vojvoda, my next bit of madness. This is something I'd like to see in Aeronef - a super-vessel belonging to a brilliant renegade (a la Nemo and Robur). Kolonel Kizhe had this great idea for a patented recoilless cannon designed to bombard ground civilian targets to submission. His plans were rejected by the powers as inhuman, so he constructed a steam-reactor Montgolfier, protected by a force field of his own design, mounting the recoilless cannon in a turret underneath. The world had better beware....

So _that's_ how the passenger aeronef Cyclops was sunk before she could take off...

In the real world, that would be the Mauretania.

Such ingenuity! Such audacious pushing of boundaries! A work of brilliant madness indeed!
I'll ponder your suggestion for "renegade genius" rules concept...

Thanks guys - CC, Leo has been sniped and sunk and is now at the bottom of the Atlantic.
Oh - and this morning - reinforcements! Straight from Wessex games, a bundle of digs and a massive battleship - still have to sort them out.
