It's been a lot of time since last entry (And even more since last painting update), I've been quite busy and also a bit lazy, but at last I've painted the Emissaries:

More pictures including the whole ships I've painted so far in the blog entry: link

Wow, again. :)  I really love the way you have made highlights so smooth and the way you mix purple and white. Great. :D

How do you manage that gold leaf effect, is what I'd like to know. Stunning :) :) :)

I will try to explain it:

1) Paint the metal area in black
2) Base coat with a mixture of Shinning Gold and Flesh Wash, this way the gold paint covers better and you get the shadows layer. Only problem is not getting the mixture to watered due to the ink.
3) Light with mithril silver (just most prominent parts or areas where light is supposed to take contact directly)
4) Make the transitions smoother, first with Burnished Gold and finally with Shinning Gold (You can also use intermediate colors to make transitions even smoother).

You could also do 1 -> 2 -> 4 -> 3 but I prefer 3 -> 4 as you can reduce mithril lights where they are to intense easily.

So you will get (From darker to lighter) the next layers:
- Shinning Gold + Flesh Wash
- Shinning Gold
- Burnished Gold
- Mithril Silver

Hope it helps

Thanks Lord Chronos - I don't know if I'll get it as good as yours, but it's worth a shot :) :)

A cheap and easy weay of doing gold (at least that I recall, might be wrong) was to paint something mithril silvder and then wash it with a chestnut ink. Worse than LC's result for sure, but MUCH faster for us, lazy sods :p

Amazing, Lord Chronos, as usual :)

Cheers,

Xavi

It doesn't have to be worse at all, the problem is I tend to do it the hardest way...

Anyways I think I will choose Flesh Wash instead of chestnut (Or even a mixture of yellow and flesh washes) as chestnut tends to a bit more reddish than gold should be.

I was going to ask you how you did the gold - thanks for clearing it up!
It sounds almost similar to a nmm technique (ie, layering), just with metallic pigments.  In any case, thats probably the best gold work I've seen on a BFG ship :D

Way to go and keep the pictures comming!

Beautiful work,
CF

No, I don't like SG Tau models at all, so just FW models. In fact after finishing painting these 1500 points I think I won't expand the fleet (Except for maybe a station or some kind of Tau "scenery").

Check this one, it is 'real' NMM on a BFG ship:

I hadn't have much time lately to spend on my Tau fleet, but I have made some advances. I've started painting the Custodian, but main advance is I've started making and painting my own Barracudas (I liked the markers I've done before but I wanted something more and Forge World's ones are too expensive).

I want to make 50 of this in order to have 10 Barracuda's markers... So it will be hard, but I will try to make some of them from time to time.

By now I've done ten (Five of them are also painted):

More pictures here (link)

P.S: By the way, those Ships are really impressive Blackhorizon.
