This is a Blog-O-Warmaster Skaven, tracking my progress towards Adepticon in parallel with my Vanaheim Air Cav. Really most of the army is complete and has been for about two years now. However I've only ever been able to field about 1.5k, and have been reluctant to make the investment to bring the army up to a full 2k. However, I burnt my anniversery gift this year on the remaining $120 of rats I needed, and intend to have them complete by Adepticon. Army shot as it stands today: ![]() The 2k will consist of 8 Rat Swarms, 8 Clanrats, 4 Rat Ogres, 4 Jezzails, 2 Warp Lightning Cannon, a Doomwheel, a Grey Seer, two Warlocks, and four Heroes. I still need to complete one unit of Rat Swarms, one Rat Ogre unit, three units of Clanrats, a unit of Jezzails, and two Heroes. ![]() Characters. A Grey Seer, two Heroes, and three Warlocks. ![]() Gutter Runners. Not using them at A-Con, but might throw them in or a change of pace now and then. ![]() Jezzails. ![]() War Engines. Two WLCs and a Doomwheel. ![]() Screaming Bell crew. The bell itself is only basecoated, but I won't need it for A-Con anyway. ![]() Infantry block. One of four of these formations. Rats in front to soak shooting (they aren't driven back by shooting), and to split off and flank when the formation charges. ![]() One of the little details I was (and am) pretty proud of when these were painted. Rat Ogre with an exposed spine. ![]() Newest unit, some more Rat Swarms. Did a few new things here, like picking out a few rats in slightly different fur colors, and adding some visual interest to the dead skaven, who tends to blend into the rats otherwise. The basing is simple, almost Legion4-like (in a good way L4 ![]() |

And a quick update, as I finished the last two Heroes earlier tonight. ![]() ![]() Skyre Hero. I really like how the banner turned out here. I also tried something a bit new for the Warpstone - generally I have done an Orkhide Shade basecoat and Drybrushed Scorpion Green over it. This time I did an orrkhide base, then stippled streaks of Scorpion Green alternated with glazes of Dark Angels green. I think I ended up doing three rounds of Scorpion, and two glazes. ![]() ![]() Moulder Hero. Tried to make the exposed skull look like it was still seeping blood - after all, the rat ogre is still alive. I think it worked well. Added some Chestnut Ink alongside the Red Ink for a more dried/coagulated feel in parts. |

Cool, nice warp globule effect on the hero. Personyl i think they'd look better based, or even just with a base colour that is not so tonally muted, so as to stand out better next to grey. |

I like the way you've done your open wounds, army as a whole is looking pretty good! I've never really seen many painted warmaster figures until recently, I'm amazed at how detailed they are. I agree with Apoc about the basing though. |

I envy this army. Nice collection. Do you have the screaming bell? |

Yeah. The crew's in the initial post, but the Bell's only primed. I'm not 100% happy with the basing either, but unless I get some serious motivation before mid-April, I'm going to be struggling to get both armies done. It might happen after, but more likely I'll be starting my Early Imperial Romans next, and it'll stay. |

I'll be sure my elves bring their rat sticks and protective gear (so they don't get the rats' natural juices all over them). On the basing, I agree with the others but can definitely identify with wanting to move onto something else. Hitting the green with water-down white glue and dipping it in some kind of color flock would be enough. I'd stay away from the foam flock and use some kind of colored grit though. The stuff CaptPiett uses looks fine over a single color. My $0.02USD. |

I've gt some of the old GW stuff. Maybe I'll wander down to the model train shop in town - they've got a really good selection of Woodland Scenics. |

How about this? ![]() Woodland Scenics Blended Turf - Earth Blend (T1350), with Forest Green and Light Green Underbrush (FC138 and FC135) which are also used on my Vanaheim. It does kind of bring out the plainness of the paint on these Ra Ogres. I should probably bite the bullet and hit the eyes. *sigh* Edit - And now that's done too. |
