Personally I think moving the scale to 8mm is not wise. It probably should have been 6mm to start anyway. I guess he is going more for the battletech crows which is on the big side... |

I tend to agree with him that most of the newer GW stuff is "heroic 6mm" aka 8mm, but what I don't understand is why they just don't call it 6mm then and make it in scale with the others irregardless of whether its 6mm or not. People are going to be turned off just by seeing 8mm, some without even looking at the stuff. |

I think the move is a good thing. Opens them up to take advantage of BT players, and inadvertantly, Epic players who like their stuff as well |

Well, this kind of comes out of the mists for me, and I have to admit that I am NOT happy about this. Its fairly typical that the only place that you cant get news about CAV is actually on the Reaper web site, where the only word is from the other parties about this in the forums. Now, after years of neglecting the game, they are handing it over to an outside source - and not the fan development group who have been keeping the game rules and updates going for a few years - who have decided to rescale the game? And its gone from 10mm to 8mm, to 'reduce prices'? How much of a saving will 2mm of scale really make? And forget the usual line of 'your old minis will still be usable'! Just go to the Reaper forums and check the various discussions on the issues between the true scale and older sculpts of the fliers. When CAV went to second ediiton, I didnt like the change, stuck with first edition and started picking up a load of the minis, because I really like the designs. Now this? ![]() |

I've been trying to keep an open mind about this, but CAV2 scratched an itch for me and it seems like this new version is moving away from that. Though my blog has some more off-the-cuff reactions to this (to put it nicely)... |

Well ... like I said on TMP ... most of the stuff could work for 6mm. I mean, Dropships, Mechs, Heavy Sci-fi AFVs would be BIG ... Yes ?! ![]() |

After the resizing the line will fit better with 6mm. But it's frustrating for somebody like me with a few hundred of the 1:160 scale models. I have other issues with this, but I'm not going to bother everyone here with them. That's what my blog is for. ![]() |

I understand S/C ... I guess we should almost be used to that kind of stuff ... ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I hate to be jumping the gun on this, and getting all fired up before any real details, images, facts, etc are out there, but my issue is with this change in scale. A 'third edition' is fine. Giving it free to people who already bought second edition is very nice, and thank you for that. +1 point. The problem for me is that this change in scale seems designed to say simply 'we know you have a load of CAV minis, now buy them again'. There really doesnt seem to be any other good reason for it at all. I dont think that this change in scale will result in huge price reductions. We are talking about a change from 10mm/12mm to 6mm/8mm, depending on you ruler, thats 40% reduction. Thats going to be clearly noticable on the table, but will it result in a 40% reduction in costs of these things? It is just frustrating that - after the countless confusion about the truescale models - there is now a third size issue to further confuse things. I am not so interested in this new edition. I am happy with first edition, and if I wanted ammo tracking, etc, I would play BT. I just want to know that the current mini line will remain available from Reaper. I wont be getting many of the shrunk CAV minis at all, whether Reaper cancel what they have or not. |

It seems that the N-scale models will be discontinued, but I could be wrong on that. I'd be surprised if Reaper destroyed the molds though, I've been there and they still have molds for things they haven't cast in ages. So you might be able to special order them, though I'd shudder at the shipping costs to Europe. |

Could it be that they want to move away from MechWarrior and Gear Blitz? They are both N, aren't they? |

To the best of my knowledge they are trying to reduce the MSRP due to cost of tin. |
