Hello all,

I'm wanted to show you the latest addition into the WWI 1/72 inventory, the Spad VII. ?

The Spad was a challedge because I went through 3 model kits before I was happy with the construction results.

Considering the Spad 7 and 13 are my favorite combat planes from WWI I really wanted to make it a quality finish. ?

I had to pull an all nighter to it get painted in time for the campaign, but I was pleased with the results. ?

It even survived it's first mission which is always a bane for newly painted models. ?:D ?

So here we are...

Surprised you used an airbrush  - the charastic airbrush diffusion on really shows on the tail, the rest looks like careful brush work.

And you must visit central London and play biggles WWI game - all the fun with none of the complications!

Very nicely done CC. Have you followed up on the history of the particular aicraft modeled?

Also, a quick tip:- I have resorted to using a finepoint rotring drafting pen (0.10) to ink in the various lines for the control surfaces, around the wheels, and especially radiator grills and other vents/openings etc that are such a pain to paint. It also means you can do this after applying the decals (avoiding the need to chop them up beforehand which is also rather trying)

Finally, I am putting on my version of this game at Valhalla '08 in Farnborough (UK) this coming Sunday (15th June), so pop in if you are interested.

Thanks for the reply guys,

To answer Tas' question the Spad flies fast, which I enjoy.  

Of course when you are maintaning those high speeds your oppoenent can fly "inside you" and just keep turning hard at low speed.   On the other hand it allows you to breakoff with ease.  

In the last game I was chasing and Albatros when two of his buddies started to move up on me after finishing off the rockie in the Nieuport.  I applied throttle and did a wide turn and never looked back.

So I didn't shot anyone down I did but a hurt on two Albatros. (Albatri?)

It's a slash and dash plane.

To answer Ginger's question the aircraft is a mix of varoius decals sets from the three boxes I had.  

In the end It mimics Lufbery's Spad VII where he had three red bars behind the Indian emblem.  I only used one.

The serial number is from a French Spad that had a black dragon on the side.  I don't know if that was a famous ace or not.

Sounds like the emblem of SPA 65, Charles Nungesser's squadron. Check out this lnk:-

It seems that at two aircraft of SPA 65 were captured by the Germans, and one was possibly flown over the lines by Eduard Ritter von Schleich., so you could even use the emblem along with German crosses.
