In my ongoing desire to dogfight through miniatures, I present the start of my WWII air armanda. The chosen scale like the WWI planes is 1/144.
The first group that I have "completed" is a Schwarm of FW 190's A-7s of JG 1 1944.
These are from a company called 21st Century Toys. I picked them up at Wal-mart for 4 dollars each.
The planes come prepainted but require a little tweaking to make them suitable for gaming. what I did was this...
1. The landing gear comes fixed in the landing positoin. I cut it off and tried to use it in the wheel well but it just didn't fit. I used green stuff, my first real use, to fill in the wheel well and painted it to look like a tire was in there. Not perfect but not bad at 20,000 feet.
2. Matching the color was hard and I got pretty darn close.
3. Sense all 4 models represented the same plane I painted over the aircraft number and each one got a new and unique Flight number.
4. Additional decals were added on the tail, for historical accuracy.
5. The drop tank was cut off to represent the fact they were dropped prior to entering combat with American fighters.
6. The only thing I wish I could have done was place a Revisco 1/144th pilot in the cockpit. But I was worried about breaking it and the cockpit was already kinda fogged over from the glue they used.
overall I think it is an excellent start.
