I will take this to mean that you are already covered then. Will search for other models just in case, but it seems that CC already covered the field here! :) Never try to beat a gaming nut in his field of expertise!

Cheers,

Xavi

All the stores just got restocked and I saw it coming in.

But they were going fast so I had to act.

Are there any other mat suppliers apart from Holtzman? I think they are quite expensive.

In case you are interesed, they have the boxed sets here for both ther WWI and WWII sets. Some WWI planes in blisters as well. 45 euros for the boxes and 9 euros for the individual planes.

BTW, are the wings of war rules any good? In this thread CC is recommending other gaming systems, so I am not sure how good they are.

Wings of War:
From what I read they are fine. Less detailed is Canvas Eagles/Blue Max. Problem what I read is that you get one card set per type of plane what led to problems if you used more as one plane of the same type.

Ive enjoyed WoW a few times with some success but dont think the rules emchanic would lend itself well to multiple aircraft per player

BTW found these good comparisons of 1/144 biplanes by WoW and Riveresco

Geo hex used to make hex mats but I don't know who picked up their line of mats.

Actually, including postage and everything, they arent that much more expensive than the plain flat green GW mat. ?
Which isnt saying that much I guess, but you are getting a whole lot more.

If I want something, the justification doesnt have to be that good! ?:D

Of course, you could always go to these lengths for an ultra-realistic game!

http://www.pantoffelhelden.de/Blue_Max/ ... nches.html

Perhaps using 1/300 or 1/600 models beneath 1/144 aircraft would give an extra feeling of height...

One day, I will impliment my 'mighty empires tiles with a clear perspex sheet on top' idea. They are already hex based, and if you can just place a clear plastic rigid sheet over it (on hex pillars) it should look great!  :;):
