Hmm... A week has passed and no one has said anything. And the command platoon was not commented at all either. Isn't anyone reading this topic? I thought the sauna would at least receive some kind of a commentary, so rare sight a miniature sauna is after all.

Hi Rudolf- I'm afraid I know very little about either FoW or Finnish jager company, so personally I have been following your Epic IG thread. This is nice work- I prefer your IG but I may be biased.

Cheers

James

Thanks for reply. I just wonder if there are any others following this, there were few when I started this topic. Well, maybe the upcoming tanks will get their attention.

It is ok to be little biased, naturally we tend to favour the game systems we play/collect ourselves. My Epic IG thread will be updated after Epicomp, if I manage to complete my entry in time. Otherwise sometime at the end of the year...

How did I miss the sauna? That's awesome.

I'm always watching. Creepy, huh?

A month has passed, but unfortunately time and real life have been kicking me to head again. I have some stuff waiting to be painted, and a lonely tank waiting another of it's kind. But I am afraid it will be January before a proper update here. But know that this company has had 3 games already. The first was a victory by margin, the second a defeat and the third a draw. So far I know these guys can really take some punishment and are able to kick ass in assaults. But a tactical error still results in a bloody mess. As I only have a small amount of these, 650 points to be exact, the games were small and I played quite defensively. But after I get those tanks painted and ready, and of course a second jäger platoon, I will be able to play agressively. That is the way I prefer!

Dear Commissar Rudolf,

I'm very impressed by the Finnish company you have painted and equally jealous of your painting skills. I'm just putting together some Finns and have finished one Jalkavaki platoon, heavy weapons, BA-10s and some T-26s. Your level of detail is awesome - which green did you use for the Jaakari badges?

Kind regards,

Mike

PS I thought the sauna was great. Scratch built?

Ditto here - I'm not into FoW but the paint job is great, and the sauna a brilliant idea. The badges - good grief! Nice work indeed. I visited the military museum in Helsinki in August, as well as that on Suomenlinna - your troops depict the feeling of high quality troops resisting larger forces, so clear in some of the photos and maps in the museums, brilliantly.

Thank you and welcome aboard!

The green used in the patches is Vallejo Sick green, which equals Citadel's Snot green. And yes, the sauna is scratch built from wood and plastic with very small stones on the stove.

Thanks. I have visited those museums myself, and liked them very much. But my favourite is the Armour museum in Parola. They have all kinds of stuff from just-after-WWI to modern stuff. Few of the old tanks are actually in running condition, and have taken part in various military history performances. They also have good amounts of anti-tank weapons, from Molotov cocktail and light guns to bazookas of cold war and modern ATGM. Also an armoured train at the back of the hill there.

Commissar Rudolf,

The work you're doing is fantastic, please keep it up. I am looking forward to the Finnish armor.

But there is no quarantee of admiration on the internet. ;)

Some times we see so many incredbile things we become numb to it.

Thanks. The sauna has really gotten some admiration by those who have seen it live with their own eyes. I am currently making slow but steady progress with some captured Soviet armour. Pictures should be coming in January.

I cannot believe I've missed this either. The sauna is brilliant.

Thank you for your comments!

But I think the stove pipe is a bit off in the roof as it looks that it's much closer to the door.

You are right, it is about 2mm off, but for some reason it looks like it's at least triple that off. I think the angled roof makes it look so offset.

I am making slow progress with some models, but still far from ready. Actually, they aren't even primed yet...

Fresh pictures from the front! The aforementioned tanks. Heavy tanks. Captured Soviet heavy tanks. These took quite some time, but slowly and steadily as these ones tend to go. As it was historically, the other captured KV had bolted additional armour, while the other had not. As far as I know, only two KV tanks were captured intact, many others were either too severly damaged or burned down when hit.

Image
The other one has seen more action recently, so it is dirtier. Generally Finnish tankers kept their equipment clean and in as good condition as possible.

Image
There is slight shine on the other one, failure with varnishing.

Image
I made the machine guns from good old welding wire. The small white line on the back is the late war registration number. The one below the flashy shine on the left KV. It is covered in dust on the command tank.

Image
2nd lieutenant is holding a small flag of Finland.

Image
He does not have proper collar patches. Many tankers just pinned their insignia on the collar of their overralls (like here) or a black leather jacket if they had one.

Image
Tanks and infantry fight their way forwards together.

And there we have it. Finnish armour.
