Our resident Russian player wanted field a large force today so his 5000 points versus our combined 5000 points (2000 German, 2000 American, 1000 British). Strange combination but it was a good game!
Russian set-up:
Ours; it looks small but most of the Americans parachuted in and the Germans had some expensive armor (a few Tigers and a Ferdinand!).
Brits on our flank:
The lone Ferdinand secure the flank with the Brits against the more numerous heavy KV tanks:
US 2nd Armor in the center:
82nd Airborne deploys their pak howitzers in a building. These guys did well and the first volley score a hit on every dice rolled!
US Shermans cross the river!
Panzers blitzkrieg the right flank:
Paratroopers arrive from the rear of the Russians and take out their AA and artillery, leaving the US priority air support unchallenged. This platoon also brought six bazooka teams along with them and although they did not destroy any armor, they did bail the entire tank platoon protecting the center.
The bold move of the paratroopers ended up costing them the whole platoon due to casualties from a pinned down assault and the subsequent enemy fire phase. They lost their command and the few survivors were then lost.
Another paratrooper platoon came in on our friendly side and hustled to catch up with the German armor and support them in their push to the objective. The third paratrooper line platoon never made it to the board.
In the end the German armor crushed the resistance on the flank and secured the objective. The Russians were forced to concede unable to rout the German armor.
