We played a 2000 point game today with a new player to boot. One Italian player with 2K points vs 2 Brit players with 1K in points each. Italians were mech/armor company vs our Infantry Company and Motor Company. Mission was breakthrough; our defending forces set up in defense on two opposing quadrants and tried to block the Italians from reaching objectives on the far side. But their delayed reserves also could enter the board from the far side where the objectives were at!
Desert town with roads and scattered palm groves and boulders:
Italians mass for the attack and have two platoons in reserve:
Brit Infantry Company are concealed and in foxholes:
Brit Motor and MG platoons concealed in hard cover:
Italians automatically get the first turn and roll into town and fire up the concealed troops; doing very little though as 6's were needed to hit them:
The RAF were lame ducks and either never showed up on a given turn or only showed up with only one plane. I think they killed one infantry stand the whole game and were only able to target some of the artillery and Lancia heavy AA as everyone else was danger close to friendlies:
I should have brought some Stewart tanks instead!
Italians start taking losses from a pair of Kingforce (Churchill III) tanks that were hidden on the flank:
Italians push the center and right flanks:
AEC-1 armored cars and Universal carriers with .50 cal MG's (both are recce units) arrive from reserves and reinforce the center:
Brit recce lay down the "recon by fire" on the Italians and exact heavy casualties:
Kingforce platton push the Italian flank and trap the advancing units in the center of town in a deadly trap:
Italians and Brits still slug it out on the flank:
In the end it was a solid Brit victory; we moved units onto the objectives to hold them while the Italians reserve platoon never arrived! The remaining Italians only had three vehicle who could move within range of the objectives to keep them in the game would never survive to fury of our fire and thus conceded defeat.
