Found this on the web and in UK Wargaming magazine Wargames Illustrated. http://www.slitherine.com/artofwar/ Looks like the success of Warmaster ancients and WAB is causing others to get in on the act. With Osprey on board the rules set should look quite good, but I was not a fan of Slitherine's PC games, a poor relation to Medieval and Rome total war. I hope the rules set won't be a poor version of Warmaster... |

This seems interesting. However, Ospreys involvement appears to be restricted to publishing alone. That said, the ideas to this rules set seems interesting: http://www.slitherine.com/artofwar/philosophy.htm |

Actually Warmaster ancients and WAB probably barely even register with these guys... ![]() 'Art of War' is being developed by half of the WRG DBM world (one of the two authors of the DBx rulesets and a lot of DBM players dissatisfied with the direction the other author was taking DBM). Ie it is a schism. ![]() AoW will probably be in the running for position as premiere international rule set for ancients. DBMM is the production of the other DBM author... due for release end of this month. I'm not sure how WAB and WMA do outside of GW circles, but I think they are gaining some traction slowly. Poor suitability for competition play is the bane of WAB. WMA will probably be no more than a minor sideline for a very long time. |

Well, I have just read through the few web pages and I must admit that I am interested. It seems that there are some interesting ideas (rerolls for troop type, etc). The only thing that worries me are the links to DBM - I never got on with that rules set as it is a little too abstract for me. If I can use 6cm x 3cm bases for my troops, then I will probably pick this up. Actually, it looks like it will use DBM basing (unsurprising, I guess). I will still give it a look. |
