Well, with the upcoming releases from Warlord, I really am starting to get distracted from Epic. Originally, I'd planned to field a Fairfax Parliamentary force, but after going back over my research I decided to switch to Covenanters.

So; I've purchased a nice selection of Perry Brothers Lowland Scots and artillery, some of Eureka's Highlanders, and through various trades and such, I have acquired 6 boxes of Warlord Royalist/Parliamentary Infantry, and 2 boxes of Firelocks. Mixing in 2-3 WHFB Empire Cannons with Foundry crews, I think I have a pretty good base for a 2000-4000 point force. I intend to get another 2 boxes of Covenanter infantry, some more Eureka Highlanders for use as irregulars, and some of the new Cavalry when it gets released.

Anyone else working on an ECW force?

Warlord's upcoming releases (release times are a compilation of rumors and correspondence with Warlord);

Covenanter Infantry (just released)
Mortar (just released)
Fire and Brimstone Characters (just released)
Royalist Cavalry (1-2 months)
Parliamentary Cavalry (1-2 months)
Dragoons (Mounted and Dismounted in the same box, 2-3 months)
Irish troops (for Royalist Scots, 2-3 months)

I love the previews we have seen of Warlord's ECW cavalry.

I have picked up a couple of blisters of Perry ECW cavalry. I intend to buy a couple of Warlord plastic ECW infantry when finances permit.

Rulewise I picked up cheap copy of Warhammer ECW but was not very impressed- did nt think it was as good as many of their WAB supplements. I have heard mixed reviews of Foundry's 1644 ruleset. I think one of the guys at local club like Forlorn Hope, so no doubt we will be trying that at some point.

I am also curious to see what Warlord Games own ruleset Black Powder, will be like. I am not holding my breath as has been mentioned as "forthcoming" for a year or so.

The ideal for me is a ruleset that can cope with basics for all of ECW/Napoleonics/ACW with a couple of specific rules to cover the flavour of each period. With newish 28mm plastics for all 3 periods I would like to have a small force for each.

Cheers

James

Volley and Bayonet:

Very non-skirmishy.  And you'd be stretching it backward from 1700.  But it shouldn't be all that hard to do.

Oh well, looks like I did better in the Wars of the Roses then - I chose York

Actually, I also want to get a small Royalist force to complement my Model Army, so that should even things out.  :)

Perhaps if you started a Swedish 30YW force that would balance the "karma". I prefer to play the Covenanters after they switched sides...
