I'm finding it handles morale better and as its a more traditional igougo system some of the mad manoeuvres that can happen in warmaster are not possible.

Really gives the feel of mass battle lines grinding it out to see who's morale weakens first.

Myself I utterly hate warmaster fantasy ............. I HATE painting 10mm troops. Go figure................Pretty weird how same core rules can cause such extreme polarisation of emotions!

Did you ever hit the 'dislike' stage or was it straight to 'hate'?

:p

Dislike first few games, then when full realisation of just how broken cavalry(and high elves in particular) were it went straight to hate(or even more accurately loathing).

I had no idea there was so much hatred for Warmaster :oo:
I really enjoyed the game during my club's phase of playing it.
I have a decent sized orc army.  Sure, I got crushed a lot, but I enjoyed it.

I enjoy WM a lot. I have skaven and tomb kings armies and I know cavalry is damn good, but still that haven't been a problem. (tneva, use a bit more terrain if knights seem to be too good) Even my skaven can handle knights in most of cases, just be sure that they don't get in your flank.

Just a brilliant game!!

What good more terrain really would do? At best it's stand off. Cavalry can't get there so they won't go near and instead high elves would just use their archers to either get small victory or draw. The second infantry comes out of forrest they are dead. So all they can do is sit there and hope elves don't shoot them to death.

Hills aren't any good. High elves can run over any infantry in the hill anyway. Been there done that. Dwarves on hill? Going to be slow but they are going to be dead. Since there's no limit to number of combat rounds in warmaster(unlike warmaster ancient) slowness doesn't bother them. I have ran over brigades of dwarves on hill without any problems countless times.

FoG is HUGE here at my FLGS. A few of my friends have sworn off all other games and only play FoG now, claiming that it is the most intense, most tactically demanding game they have ever played, and they cant get enough of it.

Just today I asked if FoG did a fantasy version and got laughed at :) Heh oh well, cant help but try!

We have a Warmaster game scheduled at the end of this month.

It is 2 players a side each controlling 1500 points (3000 point game total)

Weird thing is, 3 of the players have chosen to take Orcs and Goblins making me play Undead (my only Chaos force atm). So it will be Greenskins vs the Greenskin/Undead Coalition. Should be a good game.

Update: A compilation of all the rules into one Living Rulebook has just been released. I have also found the alternate armies book that also includes forces such as the Chaos Dwarves. No doubt we will be looking to finally get our money's worth out of this game after all these years of neglect.

I have Warmaster Ancients with the Medieval supplement and a bunch of HYW French. I recently bought two used copies of Warmaster Fantasy and a bunch of Dark Elves. I'm planning on running the Warmaster Ancient rules with the Dark Elf list and fantasy magic rules. I am certain that someone else has had the same idea and will be looking for such house rules soon. If I can't find any I'll just have to take the plunge and start playtesting myself I suppose.

I also play WM on a regular basis. I have a dwarf army, and while it is not ideal for my style of play (I tend to have a kind of WAAAAGH approach to warfare :D), I got it for free! :P

Game itself is good fun, although it can be very frustrating at times (if you make just 4 successful orders in a 7 turn game with a Ld 10 general for example...).

Is there a picture section for WM here?

cheers,
M

I thought I was, but found out that some had beaten me to (not play) it.

But the various demon stuff look as if eminent for EA.
