hello,

Has anyone played hott, (hordes of the things) by the wargames research group?

I have large warhammer armies that havent been used for over a decade, they are gathering dust and taking up storage space so im thinking of using them again, but ill never play warhammer again, not my cup of tea anymore!

Ive thought of selling them but that isnt really an option as i spent so long collecting them when i was a young un.

Opinions? :agree:  :disagree:

cheers
steve.

HOTT is a nice and quick game.
And in 28mm it's played on 3' by 3' field, so you can play it at home!

Going to HOTT from FB mean that you can cut the armies in quarters and sell three of them too. :D

Check the HOTT Yahoo Group for more information. It's quite active.

Good luck!  :agree:

Yeah, it's certainly nice.
And 6/10/15mm is played on 2' by 2'. (Big battles on 2' by 4'.)
10mm is also extremely easy to get going from WM. But 15mm is the mainstay.

You might also want to look at AoMaS (Age of Might and Steel). it's thought for 15mm but should transact easily enough.

I've played it. Quite simple system with extremely obtuse rules language (aka Barkerese). Personally I find it a bit too simple in that there isn't a lot of flavor to different races/armies. My mainstay of fantasy gaming has been Fantasy Rules!, which I quite like. It also uses a fairly small game board, and is written to be used with multiple scales. If using 6mm or 10mm I would just use the 15mm sizes/ranges. Where I think FR! beats HOTT hands down is the character and magic rules.

Well i bought the HOTT rulebook and i have to say from reading the book it is a very simple game but written in a way that makes it sound complicated, "Barkerese" in other words.  Im going to stick with WFB.

cheers
Steve.

Oh, do you have any links for Fantasy rules? never heard of them........

never mind, heres a link for anyone intersted:

Well, it IS a simplified system.
I see it mainly as a quick play system for campaigns. Just as I managed to get FB playable by simply cutting characters at lvl two.
