Just a heads up:

Woodlands Scenics Water Effects C1212 8oz bottles are 40% off at Hobby Lobby this week.  I picked some up for naval bases.  It is a thick paste like substance that easily spreads and can be formed.  It is supposed to dry clear in 24 hours.  I intend to paint it after wards anyway.

Regular price is $15.99 so the 40% makes the stuff a good buy at this time.

ha ha, very funny my friend, except...
its NOT a map...its a chart!

:vD
Well where I come from charts have stars on them, and the thingy with pictures of places is a map - see, in Maltese it's called a mappa, so that has to be correct  :p   But lets not quibble.

The Lad immediately claimed the Dwarves and the Dragon Lords as the coolest models there.
Good lad, I made the very same choice.

There was some damage en route though sadly
Aw, pity. The Orcs I dare say are no major problem - hope you can fix the Dragon ships.

Actually there are some decent 1/600 scale Norse style Longships about by another company.
In due course I plan to use them as Human raiders

Not the old Man O' War ones, eh?
Xyston do a very pretty set of galleys (Punic, Roman, Greek)- I might use them as an alternative fleet which is helped by the ancient gods - would be nice to make models of Vulcan, Poseidon in his chariot with Triton and Nereid pulling it, Ares, Artemis, Athena, Apollo....
Meanwhile - ship no. 3 and conversion no. 1 is done - pics up later.

I like this Woodland Scenics Water Effects, very easy to use!  So here is what it looks like applied on the base.  The consistency is much like a fluffed pva glue.  It spreads easily and forming waves and such is a snap.  Clean up is as simple as water.

In the process of drying, within an hour of application:

A day later fully dried:

Painted with Regal Blue, Scaly Green, Hawk Turquoise, and Skull White from GW:

Finished with a paint on gloss varnish:

Uncharted conversion.
This is based on a Peter Pig American Civil War model.

In this case it's an ancient Dwarf ship o' the line reinstated in service. She's less well-armoured than her newer comrades, but for blockades and coastal warfare, she still packs a punch. AND could still be used in VSF

Very nice Sir, very nice Indeed.
An Auxilliary Cruiser suited to employment as a harbour defence ship if ever I saw one  :wow:

And yes, I'm still loving your background  :agree:

Thank you - glad we share the same ideas for its use.
And that you still like the chart.

For what it's worth, I have not played the newest rules edition of this game.  That being said, I purchased it last summer with my gaming group, and within weeks it was called "Uncharted Rules" by many, and shelved shortly after that.

The experience was frustrating, with simplistic and poorly written rules, unclear examples and contradictions, and what we felt were unbalanced fleets.  The models, however, are ace.

Since that time that we all shelved it, they changed the points of the ships, changed the firing rules, rewrote much of the rulebook, thus making what I own completely pointless.  I do not plan on trying it again, nor the Trafalgar port my friend is trying.  It was my first naval game, and if it hadnt been so poorly written initially, I likely wouldnt have had such a bad taste in my mouth from it.

It's not even a second edition, just a second printing that includes the updated line of sight rules (and stats for the 2 new fleets which you still need to download the full rules for anyhow). It's all exactly the same for the most part- they have the revised LOS rules as a PDF download on the website for anyone holding the first printing.

And the game kicks ass in any case ;-)
