As some of you are aware it is my intention to use the Flames of War ground combat rules to play out some Battlestar Galactica 1st Cylon war battles.
I?m been thinking of the conversion and there is one part that I would like to solicit outside thought on. This discussion primary deals with how to handle the Cylon infantry, i.e. the Centurions.
For Infantry combat there are three basic factors that go into an infantry unit.
Experience This quality represents the experience of the unit. This numbers is the basis for skill test such as building entrenchments crossing mind fields and most importantly the establishing the base to hit number.
The game assume experiences ground troops no how to make themselves really small in a modern combat. They are better are concealment and spacing and as such present harder target to find and fire upon.
It was my assumption that Cylon centurions would not be the most skilled soldiers and their use of cover and concealment would be minimal as best. I can?t imagine a walking toaster diving for cover at the sound of machine gun fire.
As such it was my plan to classify the Cylons as conscript class troops. This makes them the easiest type of target to hit. This seemed logical to me to see a walking wall of tin soldiers advancing at you.
Considering the troops experience rating also determines your ability in close combat the Cylon will not hit very often. Once again this seemed find to me because Cylon centurions are not nimble they are not tossing grenades, but they do have lots of firepower so I was thinking of giving them a re rolls to hit.
Saving Throw All infantry teams in Flames of war having a saving throw. This saving throw represents two basic factors. One is that soldiers under fire tend to seek cover and make themselves hard to hit. More importantly, it represents the fact that even when bullets are on target they may not inflict actually casualties. You may be blasting the general area but nothing is connecting.
There are two levels of saving throws 3+ and 5+. 3+ is for infantry and 5+ is for guns and unarmored vehicles.
For the Cylons was thinking to keep the 3+ while they may not duck for cover they are still relatively small target on a modern battlefield. But a 5+ may be more accurate. Any Thoughts?
Bullet Proof Cover If an infantry unit is in ?Bullet proof cover? it forces the firing unit to make a firepower test. The test represents that the target in entrenched, in a solid building, or behind a stone wall of sorts. They are protected by something that can stop a bullet.
Firepower depends on the weapon, it reflects explosive power. A rifle or Machine gun may be 6+ so it is hard for a rifle bullet to affect a concrete building.
Some other weapons? 50cal / 20mm /37mm/40mm 5+ 50mm 4+ 75mm/88mm 3+ 105mm 2+ 155mm 1+ - If something this big lands on you it doesn?t matter what your hiding behind.
Because of the nature of Centurions, i.e. made of metal, my plan was to always count the centurions as ?In bullet proof cover.? As such the centurions would be almost invulnerable to small arms fire. Once again this seems to make sense to me.
I wanted to present this to gather my thoughts on the subject and see if people think I?m on the right path or off my rocker.
Thanks for any thoughts.

It does sound good ... but if you were doing the current series ... I think it appears, the Toasters have a better AI ...

sounds great! There are some battle droids in SW CMG that look VERY much like the lastest generation of toasters

Sounds good CC though invunerable to small arms fire sounds a little too much, how do the numbers work in that regard? If it's basically possible though with slim odds I'd say fine, if it is 'impossible' I'd be a little worried. The other points sound perfect for Cylons, after all they are supposed to die in droves

Hey Guys thanks,
To answer some question.
This is the first Cylon war not current series slikcy cylon centurion so my assumtion is we are dealing with the original series block heads.
It has also been suggested to be to drop their save to 5+ vs. the 3+. Once again to reflect their straight forward assualt style.
Justinel,
They are not completly immune to small arms fire just very resiliant.
For example, a vehicle mounted machine gun will roll 3 dice to hit.
They will need 2+ to hit, followed by a 5+ saving throw for the Cylons on any hits.
Then the machine gun needs to roll a 6+ (it's firepower rating) to actually eliminate the Cylon fireteam (4-5 actual Cylons).
