Quote (wargame_insomniac @ 27 Jan. 2006 (18:51)) | I look forward to seeing if M/S can come up with anything good with Planetfall-Dune. |
It'll be down the road a ways. I'm concentrating my efforts on Traveller and might let myself have the distractions of giant monsters / kaiju and possibly a Star Wars Endor jungle battle or some other good Star Wars battle that gives me an excuse to build something other than snow vehicles.
Shalom, Maksim-Smelchak. | Hi M/S
A bit off-topic for this thread so I'll keep it brief. I know you like the smaller scale for doing Star Wars but with the number of models now released by WoTC for Star Wars minis maybe you should scale up. Now they have done an AT-AT, and that is a chunky piece of resin/plastic (18" wide x 14" high x 7" deep ), I think I will stick to that scale.
Plus you have Luke on Tauntaun, Stormtrooper on Dewback, Tusken Raider on Bantha, , Stormtroopers/Rebel Speeders and AT-ST's from the original trilogy. And Darth Maul on Speeder, Hailfire Droids and AT-RT's from newer trilogy.
Next release is called "Attack on Endor" and will feature AT-ST in jungle camo.
Sorry for that brief interlude- back to Dune.... Cheers
James

Hello, only just picked up on this thread. Loved Dune as a novel, alhtough I wasn't paying much attention to it from a military/wargaming perspective as I was concentrating hard to understand the universe which Herbert plunges you in to! Anyway, he tends to gloss over action, focusing upon characters.
I've watched the film, found it a bit dull. Have wanted to check out the miniseries. As for the other books (Children... on wards and the prequels) I've not read (well I started Children... and couldn't get in to it!
As far as gaming, I think it could suit itself to either 6mm or 28mm. Skirmishes between sardaukar and shielded House Atreides nobles in the latter would be fun... and in the former we'd get the worms, which would be very cool indeed!
Sorry, I've not got much more to add constructively but will watch this thread with interest.

Well I look forward to seeing the details.
I almost through the House Atreides book and I found the Space fighter training good to determining what weapon they have on their space ships.

"Dune" would make a great skirmish game in 15mm, 20mm or 28mm, and...
I also agree that it has enough big battles to make a neat 6mm or 10mm game as well!

interesting.
Thanks for the preview
I'm curoius you mention walkers and armor. Does that mean the "Ever Slicing" lascannon wasn't avialable back in that period of the Dune universe?

The Lascannon and other things like (uhm I could tell you but that would giva away too much story!) where invented during that period.
The walkers are used by the 'Computers'.

Hi Luis,
Just an FYI, the Butlerian Jihad was about establishing the place of robots in the Dune-iverse if I remember correctly.

Cool!
I just finishhed reading the First house book. I got a wargaming question maybe someone could help me in.
Some Spoilers may follow...
Ok When the atatck occuers in the highliner, Leto acitivates his Frigate's shields to stop everyone from fighting.
Now this got me thinking. If all large space craft have shields what weapons have to be used to fight in space. All ships invulnable with shields or can the shields still be beaton down, similar to BFG.
Would thye use laser weapons or other more conventional weapons.
Just thinking...
