In late 2115 His Majesty's Mech Duke of Roxburgh led a dawn assault on the vineyards of Burgundy. Supported by a small force of SAS special forces and the heavy infantry of the Black Watch, Roxburgh succeeded in securing the production facilities around Chalon-sur-Saone, and with it formed a bridgehead to allow support from the south to roll into the area. With the vineyards under British control, French morale was dealt a terrible blow.
I have slowly been putting together a force for Horizon Wars, and have decided to theme my army around the near future Operation Plantagenet, where Britain decides the French could do with a good kicking. It's all firmly tongue in cheek.
I am enjoying the opportunity to put together models from many different suppliers. Here we have a mech that began life as a Ramshackle Games 28mm robot, heavy infantry that are Microworld Foundationist power armour, and special forces in the form of Exodus Wars Guild bounty hunters.
We have here a 12 point force:
P3 Mech Duke of Roxburgh - M4, F5, A5, D2, CHQ, Indirect Fire
P2 Heavy Infantry (x3) Black Watch 4th Battalion – M3, F4, A3, D3, Dig In, Alert, Infantry
P3 Special Forces 22 SAS Elements – M3 F3, A1, D2, Dig In, Deep Deployment, Guide Fire, Infantry
The Mech is the all out powerhouse in this force. It is an P3 mech with M4, F5, A5, D2, with Indirect Fire capabilities. Fast, shooty and hard to kill, it will be on the offensive from the get go, seeking out weaker mechs and light cavalry to pick on. It is also the CHQ.
The heavy infantry are to hold ground and make themselves hard to kill by digging in. They have enough firepower to endanger anything that gets too close. Each unit is P2.
The special forces are the wildcard. They can deliver a mighty punch, but there's only one P3 unit. Their main objective will be to come in by Deep Deployment and use their Guide Fire ability to further enhance their deadliness by hijacking the Mech's smart munitions.
The force will eventually be bolstered with some heavy cavalry, but up next is some light infantry. Every force needs its dog soldiers.
