I had a read through the original mechwar and the battlegroup beta pdfs as well as a little solo game with four mechs on each side. The rules are easy to pick up and yet leave lots of important decisions for the player to make. The action/reaction system is great and the "shaken" effect adds well to it. Overall I have the feeling to fill an important gap with HW which offers more durability to each element without bogging down things. It could make small battles on a platoon scale much more interesting from now on.

I still wonder how many changes you made to the original rules. Are there more special abilities like "assault rig" or "fragmentation screen"? Does transport for troops now exist? Is there a real Close Combat option besides doing a charge? Could you field freaky stuff like Bio-Titans and Daemons?

I ordered my copy far before seeing the teaser fotos... As you can see, I'm really curious now that I know the production value.

There are very few changes to the original rules. Charging is slightly more elaborate depending on the elements involved. There aren't any more upgrades in the basic rules (upgrades take a ridiculous amount of play testing so I've kept further upgrades back for expansions so I can use the player base to do my testing).

There are no transports for troops. There's Mobile Infantry. There are transport aircraft, though. However, you'll find that using them as battlefield taxis is strictly a Hail Mary move. This is intentional. When there's serious firepower ringing around you, smart soldiers do not climb into big target boxes.
