HI all

I'm new to the forum and had my first game of Dirtside II in about 10 years today. :)

I was wondering if it is still popular with scifi players or have people moved on? The reason I ask is that a lot of the websites for DS2 seem to have stopped being updated since the early 00's.

BTW the game was very enjoyable and I'm keen to play more. I have played a fair bit of WRG Moderns and other historical so I find DS2 plays very well. I will try and post some pictures along with a game of FWC I had a month or so back.

Cheers
Kieran

I can't think of anyone playing that game in... literally decades. I last played 20 years ago. But I do remember it fondly. Solid ruleset. Just could never find anyone to play with. Good luck!

Hi!

One of my favorite all time rulesets. I use the FMA variant that uses dice instead of chits, which is one of the cleverest design modifications I have seen.

I made epic conversions for these rules which I can send to those interested.

They are kind of dated (being made 15 years ago), but pack a lot of stuff.

It's still my go to rule set for non-GW epic play. Although Future war commander gives it a run for the second spot. :)

I played a few games, I liked it. The scenarios work well in EA as well.

I still play-- though it's been a little while. Great game, and I've found that if you get a game together, setting up game number 2, 3, 4, etc isn't hard. People love it.

I play Dirtside II. I love it. I've added some house rules to make it a bit more interesting. My goal is to combine Full Thrust and Dirtside II and run a campaign with my gaming group. Primarch mentioned above about how he uses a ruleset that converted the chits to dice. I rather enjoy the chit process. It was a bit cumbersome until someone took some time to program a chit-puller. It adds a dimension not used in other systems, so I think it adds to the uniqueness of the game.

One of my goals for DS II is to put together a city-scape so that I can run DS II at conventions. Hope to be done in a year or so.

You know the way most guys you hear comments from out here on the boards are buying "epic proxies" so that they can play Epic. When I look at minis, I always think of how I can use them in Dirtside 2.

Happy 6mm gaming!!

Thanks guys. It seems like the usual wargamer syndrome with new shiny rules replacing older sets. :)

Our first game of DS2 went well so I will be playing more. Its a pity so many of the old DSII websites have gone

Cheers

Hi!

Agreed. I remember in the 90's there were Dirtside sites everywhere.

It's a great game and deserves to be played.

I have never played a single game of Dirtside, but I was always interested in playing. Owned the rules for years before finally selling them to Half-Priced Books. Last year I got a physical copy of them back, but without the counters. But, I have the same problem as I had before: no one locally to play with on a consistent basis.

I'm still playing - when I get a game. I've never really understood the idea of a game becoming "obsolete" except for marketing purposes or significant improvements , and I haven't seen a game that covered such a variety of technology levels and worked so well.

Hi!

I agree 100%. :)

I still consider dirtside II with the FMA enhancement (Die rolls instead of chits) the best 6mm game ever made.

Granted Future war commander is a strong second.

There is no such thing as obsolete rule sets, just obsolete companies. ;)

Well said! I personally subscribe to your philosophies, guys!

I've never tried Dirtside, but you guys are making me itchy and that means I'll have to strong arm my brother (who's larger than me) intro trying this... If I get hurt I'll have to have words with you :)

Hi!

I have a file that is over 15 years old with epic conversions. It's dated of course, none of the more recent units. It's on my to do list to updated it.
