Some vague but interesting hints at the rules for Dropzone Commander. It looks like it will be an interesting rules set.....

I really like the look of this game. The minis look awesome too. And the scenery (when it comes out), looks amazing. I doubt I'll have anyone to play near me so at best, I might buy some minis just for the sake of collecting and painting.

I took a serious look at it now that everything is around the corner. 9GBP for 20 10mm infantry is 3 times what I normally pay, seems steep even for GW.

45p per 10mm figure?
We're charging 20p per 10mm figure at Troublemaker, so it does seem high to me.

If the army deals are anything to go by it does at least look fairly infantry light, in terms of not requiring hordes. Bit steep though, yeah.

When you're used to Pendraken's 30 for 3, definitely. Although even they've had to succumb to a price increase recently.

£68 for the basic starter sets is a tad steep too..... especially since I would imagine that unless a group goes for it, most people will want a couple so they can demonstrate stuff to potential opponents

Dystopian Wars gives you around the same number of models and is far cheaper, I hope the success of Hawk wargames doesn't ride on the price....

What does a starter set include?

£68 would be more than enough for a full sized army for T300, with change to spare to buy a bacon butty.

varies from set to set, but you get 3 large dropships, 4-8 medium tank type units, a couple of APCs and a few stands of infantry

Really does seem infantry light - by way of comparison our £46 German army has 24 stands of infantry, 9 tanks, 3 tank sized machines & 6 static turrets. We consider that to be basically a full sized army (you might want a few more mining machines but that's it).

How are the rules?
Would that £68 army be a full sized army, or just a starting force?

I get the feeling we should be making scifi figures too, heh.

more of a starting army I reckon, I've not bought the rulebook so can't comment on the rules....

the price point really put me off it. I'm worried about their production scaling as well. Not as in model sizes, but they've been overrun with orders and work to the point that I was unable to get replies from them as someone who was trying to paint up some models for them for the rulebook. As such (although it was a log way from the only reason - moving house and other issues took over too!) it became the first corporate commission I've ever missed a deadline for and didn't make the rulebook :/

THat said, The models are simply brilliant. The casting on the ones I have is pretty good too, but it was achieved by paistaking production processes and if you're scaling it to mass market, I fear how the detail will hold. Time will tell!

BTW, all the army deals are playable. The smallest will probably give you a game lasting 1-1.5 hours. The big deals provide WAY more than you would sensibly need for a single game, the middle sized deals are about the equivalent of a 3k game of EA.

Thanks for the info Rug
