Post subject:  Sci-Fi Egyptian Armoured Warriors??

Recently saw the Stargate film on TV. Reminded me how cool I thought it was - I have always had a bit of an interest in Egyptian mythology - previously picked up Wargods of Aegyptus and small Anubi warband, although no one played it down my club.

I had watched quite a few seasons of Stargate SG1 previously when I had satelite TV. So have spent the weekend looking through Stargate RPG's and potential minatures.

I like the look of Eureka Minatures and MoFo minis but they seem to be OOP. The only ones currently on sale are the Phoenix Icon 25mm figures that are currently being sold by Cold War Minatures (as well as their larger prepainted 1/25 3" Icons range).

Some nice photos are here:

Has anyone here actually bought any of the above figures? What did you think?

Cheers

James

I imagine the Royal Empire will have an Egyptian kingdom at somepoint, the Assault Infantry from that should sort you out.

We are finishing off the Zho first and then its the English.

We will probably do them after the English.

Woo !!! Woo !!! ;D Those staff weapons have a good range and killing power ... but I don't know how well they'd fare against Slammer AFVs ... ;D

Ideally I'd like to hire a blue werewolf to do them if he has time, he's done a grand job with the other Royal Empire troops so far.

Lawks no - I'm thinking gas masks and berets.

The Assault Infantry will be very simular to armoured foot knights.

Would it be silly to give them sci-fi land rovers? Would anyone buy 6mm land rovers?

I'm just spitballing here. It would be nice to give them a 'unique' unit, the Marcovians have there Engineering platoons and the Zho have specialised Assault infantry platoons.

I wish Tom good luck as with any new ranges, but personally I have no interest in these 6mm figures. for me it is not something I would want to game with massed infantry and massed tanks. So only interested in 25mm-28mm for skirmish gaming, which is why I asked question in other scale Sci-Fi.

Just got confirmation from Gripping Beast that there MOFO figures are long gone. That just leaves the Phoenix figures now sold by Cold War Minis. These fit the look of the series Jaffa perfectly- less so the Jaffa that we see in the original film as too armoured.

No one appears to have done any Goa'uld figures. You could get away with Apophis by simplypainting the serpent headed Jaffa as golden armour. What I really want is the Pharoah mask that we see Ra with in the film. Plus some Anubis headed Jaffa. I will keep an eye out on Wargods of Aegyptus to see if any are suitable.

Cheers

I'd be interested in something recognizably Land Roverish with armor and a big gun on top.

At the risk of thread resurrection......

Recently picked up the 10 Season Stargate SG1 Box set when on special offer. £50 for 54 DVD's and over 200 episodes? That will do nicely!! Had n't watched the series since it first aired on TV in late nineties / early noughties. So far part way through Season 2. This will be a long but enjoyable marathon....

My attention has returned to the 28mm Phoenix Icons range. Has anyone bought them or tried 28mm Stargate gaming?

Cheers

I succombed. I regretted missing them first time round, and didn't want to risk them selling out of their remaining stock. I got some good feedback at least on TMP and so went for it.

Tried to not get carried away. Picked up couple of each Jaffa pack but held off on SG teams for now. Figured it would be easier to get some not-SG figures as many current/near future troops available. Looking at Hasslefree but it will be few months befofe they get some more sculpts with the FN/P90 guns. Would have liked some with HK MP5.

Can anyone suggest any other good weapons for SG Teams? Thought maybe one sniper rifle and/or shotgun for variety?

What about squad organisation? I know SG teams are fictional so I can do whatever works well on tabletop. But it d8es feel as if they have tried to be realistic. What do you reckon?

Thanks

James
