I'm restless and in need of a project by myself.
Earlier on I've gathered people over weekends to play fantasy campaigns, based very loosly on Mighty Empires, called Bloody Empires.
I've also ran more than my share of 40k-campaigns in the Alfakta sector.
So I'm no juvenile in this.

Now then, me and my son are looking into making a combined effort on the net.
A space and planetary commerce and combat game.

Ordinarily this would mean everything happening inside the database and the functions around it. But if this congregation of people care to have a reason for fighting it might work out as a farily hands on PBeM?

If we stay inside the Emperium (ie GW) we have space combat, air combat, company combat and even platoon skirmish and covert operations.
But taken the interests of this particular group I'd say we stay at space and company combat. and the exact system used is of no consequence, if there can be decided a winner and a looser or a draw it doesn't matter what systemis used, right?

The five basic factions are Human, Alien, Machine, Devour and Chaos.
Each faction starts with five planets and dived them among themselves in suitable ways. Ie Space Marines on one, Pax Arcadia on one and Worms on one, Tyranids on one and Eldar on one, Orks on one etc.

Are people up for somethinglike this?
You game at home and the result is used to alter the fate in the Alfakta Sector.

I think I have the basic functions too, already...  8v)

The faction have 1 VP per planet plus 1 per won battle minus one per lost battle.
If a faction has won in space and won twice on land the same round against the same enemy faction, then the closest planet is won from that faction.

Please feel free to have ideas and questions!

And to help out over that first bump in the road:

"What do I have to do?"

As a player you show some interest in the happenings, wee your faction and woo the enemies.

Basic interest:
As an admiral and fieldmarschal you submit your usual fights to me.
Who (player and force) fought who (player and force) in what gamesystem.
nB; both must do this for the fight to count. And as gentlemen we do that, right?

Advanced interest:
By talking to the rest in your faction and maybe even with some enemies (or perhaps better not?) you can make sure your fighting is going somewhere.

I'lll try to add extra elements into the brew as we truddle along.

You might be quite interested in VBAM. Its quite cheap and available as an e-book. Check it out, could give you a raft of new ideas.

Personally I prefer human moderated games that allow for all the devious strategies that attempt to finish the enemy once and for all (but of course rarely do!).

Well we don't have an assembled game group, we got a bunch of people strewn out all over the globe. But this would offer us a way to get together and speak with people we wouldn't normally contact. And get some games done!

As for devious ideas I just read about such a one in an ancient The Space Gamer. Neat, very neat, stuff on a PBM.    :vD

I love space combat (must save up and start BFG fleet).
I have only played/tried to play Imperial Starfire, very heavy on paperwork and mind numbing logistical number crunching. If it's anything like that I don't know if I could keep the momentum going. I do not know enough to comment on others systems suggested here. Campaign sounds interesting though.

Ah! Let me explain that part again then!

Each fight is in your system of choice!

Right now we got (among others, don't hang me!) ground battle systems named Epic (various versions), Seeds of War, Command Horizon (see Peter, I'm open minded!), Alien SquadLeader (I think?!) etc etc.

Various space combat systems can be found discussed here.

Which is used doesn't matter. Even 40k is possible, atleast if at 3'000 points.
Just get the result of the battle in and it gets to be a part.

Another point where people might get problem is what is in which faction:

Human
EA: Space Marine, Imperial Guard, Sisters of Battle, Adeptus Titanicus.
DRM: Pax Arcadia.
CH: Human factions.
EW: Guild.

Alien
EA: Eldar, Ork, Tau.
DRM: Kraytonian.
EW: Khazari.

Machine
EA: Necron.
DRM: Andrayada.

Devour
EA: Tyranid.
EW: Edenite?
CH: Centaur, Worm.

Chaos
EA: Chaos, Dark Eldar.

Did I miss someone?

I've asked our various producers to bud in and helpout in this endevour, nothing like a little prize to wet peoples appetite, right?

There's a weekend coming up, how about those that battle then send me their results and we'll see how it turns out?

I look at each result as it comes in. When there's "three of a kind" (for ex three Human vs Machine) then there's also a campaign wise result. Three wins in a row means something good for that side (and usually bad for the other).
And that's all that is needed.
Beoyond that it's quite possible to set-up serious attacks to make a difference.

How about that folks?
Send in the result of your battles this weekend.

(Prefered format is PM and Subject: [winning faction] beat [loosing faction] in [game system]. Inside you write winning and loosing players. And then perhaps a short, but totally volontary, report too.)

Friends!

We have positive replies from atleast two makers already.
Both Brigade Models and Ground Zero Games have expressed interest.

And you all see what needs to be done to make them, and others, take the step, right?
You have to step into the sector yourself too!

It's as easy as a PM.
And can be as convoluted as you want.

For each three fights between two factions we have a campaign result.
It can be conquered planet, captured convoy or destroyed factory. Or not enough to be decisive.

PM me your fights as "[faction] beat [faction] in [system]" as subject and players and more inside and we are all a go.
The more we are, the more likely to get sponsors.

Erik

Victory By Any Means

And a campaign system as their flagship.

Alfakta 080923
There hasn't happened much.
But Chaos has invested one step onto Humans.
Chaos Cultist/Daemon Horde beat Sisters of Battle/PDF Army in NetEpic.

John (Non-TacCom player) with Allied Chaos Force beat Jim (AKA Warhead) with Allied Sisters of Battle/PDF Force.
