Oh, my goodness! This is going to be another Otterman-wants-something-from-his-youth post (refer to my Starfire and Galactus posts, etc.)

Today's installment is nostalgia for the TurboGrafx-16 game called "Military Madness", a turn-based hexagonal gridded wargame of battling tanks.

Rather than attempt to describe it to you, simply refer to the wealth of material already collected:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_Madness
http://nectaris.tg-16.com/

But we all love little tanks blowing each other up, don't we? Sure we do. So here are some pictures captured from the Nectaris website.
It's another one of my fancies to scratch build, commision to scratch build, or computer model some of the more interesting units.

And here's a scan of the German guide to armor, so you can have some statistics. The units had the typical range of attributes: attack, attack range, defense, movement rate, and special abilities (like the Rabbit could move, attack, then move again).

Fast attack and artillery...

the lower right hand is actually very slow attack, since it's a mine.

Aircraft, anti-aircraft, and infantry!

This has always seemed a little weird to me. Supposedly the action takes place on the moon, which is in vacuum. So why do the fliers have wings?

Otterman: This reminds me of one of my favorite Xbox titles: Dai Senryaku VII.
Ironically, I have been tinkering with making a game like this using Epic figures and hexes from Heroscape. (I was literally working on it while lazily scanning this post). ?Would you (or others) be interested in a little boardgame like this? I have a very rough sketch right now, with units based (GW legal types avert your eyes) on the stats and organization from Epic (SM2/TL). ?I have always thought such a game could bridge the gap from boardgames to full on Epic miniatures gaming.
