In the wargamer version of Sign & Portents issue 51 there's slight mention of the guys at Mongoose having a couple experimental Starship Trooper figs in 6mm. ?If this were to happen I wonder how much interest there would be in the figs. ?If they're decent I'll probably snatch a few up but not necessarily for their game. Oh, and unfortunately I didn't see any pics. |

Cooool. I've been wanting 6mm SST figures for ages! Though I want SST:Evo and the 30mm stuff as well! This is still my favorite 'large' game, to be honest. The rules just work so nicely it's a shame that they didn't have better editing to make them more clear in places! |

This is also mentioned on the Mongoose forum. There are a number of interesting revelations. Mongoose now have their own publishing and printing facility. This allows them to make limited runs, special books, and so on. Battlefield Evolution is currently on hold. Mongoose are in talks with a third party to expand the game and miniatures. This would expand the pre-painted aspect, and expand the background to near-future forces. Starship Troopers is also on hold. This doesnt look like it will go pre-painted just yet, and will get new, unpainted and metal minis. It is being re-written to a second edition, dropping lots of the Skinnys and remaking others. B5:A Call to Arms is getting a number of expansion packs. Also, it looks like the rules engine wll be applied to a new background, but no word on exactly what. Rumours and whispers are hoping for BSG, Honor Harrington, etc. An interesting read. Generally, while the posts clearly have spin in buckets, there are admissions of problems and a hopeful outlook. The 6mm SST wont come out in the near future. They were mentioned as a couple of one-off minis, which have great potential, but I think that it will be at least another year or two. |

Well I'd buy them. They are the original Tyranids and my 2nd favorite Heinlein book. |

If they do come out, it'll give me an excuse to write stats for the MI in Epic! Mwahahahaha! More random stuff to do! |

If they did the Mobile Infantry minis ? la the film, I can see manypeople getting them as Cadian IG proxies for Epic (myself included!) ![]() Also, how many tyranid armies would be done using the Bugs if they did those in 6mm... ![]() |

I hope they do the Gorilla Suits from the book. Those things were awesome and the producers actually made one suit... for $10,000. Had the movie come out 5-10 years later they would have had access to better special effects and you would have definitely seen them. |

(Moscovian @ Dec. 05 2007,06:38) QUOTE I hope they do the Gorilla Suits from the book. I hope so, too. I hate the ones from the movie. They're not truly MI suits as far as I'm concerned. |

They tried desperately to reference them in the dialogue, going as far as keeping the line from the book, "Come on you apes, you wanna live forever?!" This left the unread masses with blank stares. Although I will tell you this: the news at the time was that Starship Troopers the movie used more uniformed extras than any other film. I don't know how valid that was when I think about the old gladiator films, Star Wars, etc., but you never know. Still, the major drop assault was an impressive scene. What figs do you think they'd need for the game? For the bugs: warriors, tankers, flyers, brains, drones, plasma beetles (those would be as big as titans). For the humans: Gorilla suits, K-9 corp, Psych specialists, dropships, fighters & bombers (can't remember if they were in the book but they looked awesome in the film). What else? |

I'm guessing they'd do the figs from the 28mm game ? But even if they do the "movie" troopers, like, F/S said - more IG/PDF ! Otherwise MI power armor is a good option ! As far as aliens, any aliens(targets!) are good for me ! Whether the book(the old A/H games is very close to the book), movie or 28mm. You can never have too many aliens ! (I think that is in the L4SoTR !?) ![]() |

They'll probably be doing the versions of the ones they do for the 28mm rules. They, sadly, do NOT have rights to do the suits from the books. See, what happened was the Heinlein estate sold the rights to do a TV series based on the book to Sony, who created a CG TV series which ran for a few seasons. Mongoose Publishing bought the rights to the TV series and used -that- as the basis for their miniatures lines. They also worked stuff explaining the LAMI (Movie MI) and the Power Suits (Resembling book MI) into the system. See, and here I always thought that the comment on them being 'Apes' was more a reference to humans being primates, as Heinlein generally held the belief that humans were animals first and intelligent second. But that might just be my biases talking! ![]() |
