Yes, I thought Heinlein was a USN officer. His experience around ground troops shows in SST. But if Haldeman was a 'Nam Vet, like Hammer's Slammer's Dave Drake (NCO in 11th ACR), the darker, grittier side will certainly come thru. Drake's time in RVN, clearly is shown in the way the troopers, talk, act, etc. ... Who knows if the current war(s) will spawn another group of Mil/Sci-fi authors, like Drake, Haldeman, etc. ... But back OT, someone keep us informed about 6mm SST !
